Subject: Thinking caps on ladies.... I need some info!

Okay, prepare to be asked many questions over the next few months, as I'm working on my dissertation on the significance of fashion/clothing amongst pioneer women and I'll need information, advice and opinions.

At what age did girls start putting their hair up and wearing long skirts? I know in LIW, she mentions wearing her hair up/ long skirts when she was 14, but was that representative, when did girls start? Was there a set age, or for example, at the onset of menstruation?

I have to do a presentation on Monday, for which I need to produce handouts. As I don't have access to a scanner at the moment, I need a photo from a webpage of a sunbonnet, that I can put on my handout. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Thanks!

This refers to washing frontier clothes, but there might be a few nuggets of information you could use:

Thanks Ann, I have copies of some of the diaries that the excerpts on this website come from, but thanks for the site, I think it'll be useful!
