Subject: What if Laura

had had a brother, and no sisters? What made me think of this is something I read on another site about Laura:
"Ma initially tried to restrict her daughters' unladylike activities--like helping to stack hay--and promote female propriety. She eventually realized, however, that her pioneer daughters would have to acquire more traditionally male skills if the family was to survive on the frontier."
Laura loved being a "tomboy" and working outside with Pa. But if she'd had a brother and no sisters, don't you think Ma would have worked harder to restrict Laura's "unladylike activities" and had help more inside the house. Don't you think Laura would have been less than thrilled with this? I suppose she would have made the best of it, but maybe she would have really resented it.
Your thoughts?

I think maybe she would be just as tomboyish. UNLESS, like you said, Ma restricted her. I think *brothers* would have brought out more of the tomboy in her.

I think Laura also was made stronger because of all she had to do. I am sure she would be a totally different person if she had had brothers.
