Subject: What would you ladies like for Christmas for yourselves this year?

Since I replied late to the Christmas shopping thread, I was afraid that it might not be seen.. at the end of it, I said that I would like a set of lamps with the stained glass shades. Anybody want anything special this year?

All I want this year is for my family to be healthy. Plus I'm in the process of trying to get surgery done to lose weight so I would like to be able to get that and that no complications happen. Delores

I don't really want anything in particular either - although it's always nice to receive gifts from special people. My mum always buys me just the right gifts - not necessarily expensive ones but she just seems to get it right.

What I really long for is - and it sounds corny - but given the state the world is in at the moment, World Peace is what I long for. I have never felt quite as unsafe as I do right now. We have always thought of ourselves as isolated in Perth, Australia and because of this felt a sense of safeness. Not any longer.

But on a lighter note, I really would love a new handbag! My old one is looking very - 'well loved'!

Well I want MANY things! LOL!!!! First, I want a dining room table, but that isn't going to happen for a long time. I also want couches - we are currently using Garrett's parents old set and they took MINE to the dump! Sadly we will be getting a big screen tv instead, which quite frankly I don't give a hoot about.

So for the little things I really want a Carmen San Diego game for the computer and some CD's. I made a wish list at Amazon and sent it to my mother and mother-in-law. I bet I won't get a thing off of it

I just told my dh that my gift could not be plugged in and could not have a warranty. I'm sorry if that sounds mean, but I'm not the kind of woman who can act excited over a blender at Christmas! I say the same thing every year, and every year he outdoes himself, so I have no fear that he will do something amazing. Last year he gave me a HUGE box, and inside were 8 smaller boxes, and inside the smallest box was the most beautiful family ring you can imagine. All of our family birthdays are in three months: April, September and December, so all the stones are either blue (sapphires and another blue stone) or white diamonds. I was speechless, which is saying a lot (no pun intended). Needless to say, I can't wait to see what he does this year. ;-)

Last year, I bought him exactly what he asked for, an industrial-strength circular saw, and he was on the phone half of Boxing Day telling all his friends. They were insanely jealous, go figure, and over the next few days several came over, just to see this saw and go 'Wow.'. Men.

LOL about the saw. Men - there is no other word for that statement!

You know, my dh mother has a rule that she is NOT to be giving anything at all for the kitchen for ANY occasion. She doesn't think getting a blender is a gift! Not a bad idea - although the first few years of my marriage I wanted kitchen stuff!

I don't know of anything that I really want yet. But I know I want my break time. Next semester I get 19 credit hrs so I want to enjoy it while I have time off.

LOL Kim!!! Actually you aren't the only one who has thought of that idea. Right after dh and I moved in to our new place I told him WE needed to get married again so we could register and get gifts of all the stuff we needed for the house! You know, curtains, blinds, bathroom stuff for 3 baths etc..... He just laughed at me. Well *I* thought it was a good idea!

We are lucky with his mom. She collects those little mini shoes. So we can go to a Hallmark store for that. But she loves Christmas stuff so this year I bought her a candle holder which has a little Christmas Village surrounding the 3 spots you can place the candles! IMO people always like Christmas stuff!!! You can NEVER have enough of it! So maybe that is a good idea for you :-)

So what is your dh mother's idea of a GREAT gift? My MIL is so hard to buy for and I am looking to anyone to supply an idea. Even a germ of an idea. LOL She has everything she wants and if perchance she thinks of something she doesn't have, she just waltzes over to the shop and buys it. Must be nice.

I agree about the kitchen stuff. I sure don't want any small appliances now, but as a newlywed, I needed EVERYTHING! The sad thing is, that we've been married over 14 years now and things are starting to wear out and need replacing. I told my dh awhile back that we needed to get married again so all of our friends would buy us neat stuff for shower gifts. At that moment our darling little son, who was 4 at the time, piped up and asked me why all of our friends would come over and give us presents while Mummy and Daddy were having a shower. And people wonder why I'm going grey prematurely.

I received my gift in August in the form of the two children we will adopt. You can't ask for much for than that.

Pat, I think you got the best gift of all, early! I laughed a big one about Kims hubby and his saw, and after seeing some of the posts, I felt selfish for wanting those lamps... I think in these days and times, with everything going on in the world the way it is, We ALL long for world peace.

Cindy - don't feel guilty for wanting those lamps! I felt like a fool after what I posted about world peace - after all, it's common sense that we ALL want that isn't it? I was just feeling a little melancholy when I typed my post up. I'm feeling better now and could tell you 10 things I want today! :-)

[> [> [> Re: What would you ladies like for Christmas for yourselves this year? -- HEY ANNE....., 00:31:07 11/29/02 Fri

Anne, I won't feel guilty about the lamps, if you will PLEASE not feel like a fool for saying you wanted world peace for Christmas!! Wouldn't it be wonderful if that could come true? I don't think that we will see that in our life times tho, which is so sad for our young ones coming up. Of course, my top priority is a given...: The good health and well being of all of my loved ones. But those lamps sure are pretty, and I really WOULD love them, lol! I have some guilt about using money from a small inheritance I recieved from my grandmother( she died in March) to buy myself a computer, so I can stop using this one, which belongs to my 15 year old son! I am sooooooo not used to buying things for myself... everyone else has always been first, because that is what has always made me feel the best about things... but if I don't do it now, I will never do it and I know that! But gee whiz.. the mom in me feels like a selfish stinker for doing it, lol!

[> I have two -- delilah firth, 20:29:54 11/29/02 Fri

Pride and Prejudice on DVD (which is on order) and a foot massager. I want a nice one. My feet hurt so much after I finish all my volunteer work. I am on my feet most nights until 9pm. A foot massager would be so nice.
