The Glenns really bothered me. She's so holier-than-thou, and he acts like it sometimes. I can't remember what happened when, so I probably shouldn't say too much about them so I don't spoil anything.
As for the Clunes, I don't know why, but I don't dislike them. (Maybe I empathize, as I'd probably be whining twice as much!) The teens I never blamed for whining--they didn't really ask to participate, and, they *are* teenagers, lol. I will say that from the book, I know the father spoke of hunting in his application, and did not find out he couldn't hunt until they were already in Montana and participating in the training. He must have felt he'd entered into FH under false premises to some extent.
The Clunes did seem to freak out a bit too much about food. And they do cheat. Although, even in 1883, it was not unusual for pioneers to travel to a town (be it 40 miles away on foot, as sometimes in LHOP books), to replenish supplies, so bartering with "outside" families to me is cheating only in that it gave them an advantage over the other two families who didn't do that. I think even in 1883 people would have found others with whom to barter when they were in need.
The Brooks are indeed pretty neat. Such a wonderful father/son relationship.

I do wonder, if the Clunes think they are running out of food, why aren't they at least attempting to be innovative and turn some of their milk into butter?
