I enjoyed the Olympics very much this year. I really prefer the winter , to the summer... and espessially enjoy the figure skating......but also love the down hill skiing and snow boarding.

I also prefer the winter to the summer olympics. I definitely enjoyed them this year. They're still people around driving cars with flags hanging out the top of them, honking horns etc. A lot of pride:)

I found myself being much less interested once the US started using professional players in basketball, hockey, etc. I know they did this to level the playing field with some of the countries who's competitor were essentially if not actually professional, but I still enjoyed it more when it was non-professionals.
That said, the ice skating is beautiful to watch (if subjective to judge, really a talent show rather than a sport IMO), skiing, snowboarding, etc. are exciting. Summer games are not as interesting to me either.

I was a little shocked to hear that the amount spent on the games per athelete was something like $800,000. It seems like these days it's more about entertainment than sport, although I thought the opening and closing ceremonies were the best I've even seen. (g) I didn't tape them, but I'll definitely buy a commercial tape of them!
I love snowboarding and skiing, especially jumping and moguls. Ann mentioned using professional atheletes. I've never understood how they can use professional basketball players, etc., but not professional skaters. Oh well.

The skaters are sort of like the people in track. Technically they can not be professionals (can't be in the Ice Capades for example) but they can accept money "under the table." So, even though I don't like having professionals in what is *supposed* to be the ultimate amateur athletic event, I think it's hypocritical to allow officially professional athletes compete in one event, but not another. Of course, I'd prefer that they were all genuinely amateur, but why allow it one way in one event and not in another?
Poor Jim Thorpe had his medals taken away from him because he playe semi-pro baseball (or was it football?), not even an event that was in the Olympics, let alone one he competed in in the Olyimpics.
Innocence in sports is definetly lost, if indeed it was ever really there in the first place.

Loved it - very impressed with the UK women's curling team - got a gold medal, and two of them come from my home town. Also impressed with Alain Baxter (Slalom(?) bronze medalist), who comes from a village 30 miles from my home town. Very smug about the fact that two out of the three British medals were won by Scottish people. Due to the time difference, most of the events were on in the evening or late at night. I'll be lost without my nightly Olympic viewing...

I enjoyed the Olympics. The skating gave us some very entertaining times. I love figure skating and keep up with it. It will be interesting to see if they change the way they judge. It is time this gets changed. This has been going on for years.
