Subject: Bucknall game

Will the upcoming game at the KerrDome be a letdown for the Raiders? How important is it to the team to have an unblemished record in the PL? Will Coach Hunt give second stringers a chance to play in this game as a warm-up for the playoffs? Will Melville sit on the pine while a backup QB takes over? These are questions posters want answered. Oh, and will the Dunlap Stands have more fannies in attendance than for last week's "championship game?" Comments?

Sorry...typo...should be "Bucknell"

if Gate does not beat Bucknell they will be CO champs with Fordham. CU gets the auto bid based on head to head BUT they would share the PL tile....can't imagine the Raiders would settle for that!
YOU PLAY TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!

[> [> Re: Bucknall game -- analyzer, 11/16/15 2:03:15pm Mon

You play to win the games that count, which is the one the next week in the playoffs. Bucknell should be a first half for the starters and second half for the backups so that the starters can heal. If you have ever been a football player, you know that you won't come out unless the coaches make you and Colgate has a bunch of very tough kids, but make them take a half (or if they have a nagging injury) a whole game off and see how they produce next week in the playoffs with fresh legs.

Sit them and win the playoff game for the program's and for recruiting's sake.

Bucknell has a pretty good history of knocking off the PL champ in games that shouldn't mean that much to them.

They haven't let an opponent score more than 26 points against them this year--that includes games against Lehigh, Fordham, and Army.

Should be one of the toughest defenses Colgate has faced this year--and a step up from the defenses Colgate has see the past few weeks--which typically means a tight game.

And that we get a good pairing Sunday 11 am on ESPNU.

Who knows what the outcome will be? What matters is how inflated the attendance figure will be. I suspect less than
600 real fannies, but prior to selection Sunday (and the money 'gate has put up) the "official" attendance for the NCAA to peruse will be 4600. Stay tuned. Go 'gate.

Damn. Such negativity for no reason. Wrong again, bro. Proud to say I have had a season ticket for the past five years and proud to say I have yet to miss a home game during that time. My old, wide fanny will be there again vs BucknEll tomorrow. Be positive and go 'gate.

Glad to hear it. I'll be there as always. I get to all home and several away games and have been for some time. But, talk about negativity read your prior post. I expect Colgate to put up at least 34 points tomorrow and I'm hoping the defense will hold BU to 17. I'd really like to see some of the back up players get in game. Go 'gate! Undefeated in PL.

Opening day of deer season today, we're going to lose half our fans to the woods. Kids are gone for Thanksgiving. I'll take the under on the 600 fannies!

Over/under attendance today? By my quick count, you won with the under. Deer season? Kids gone? Thanksgiving? Same excuses can be used next week. Let's just say we win (buy?) the home field for next week's playoff game. What will the over/under attendance be for that? Regardless, go 'gate!

[> Defense Won This One -- Woke Up Optimistic, 11/21/15 4:33:26pm Sat

14-10 Colgate is your final.

Defense, as a unit, should get player of the game. Two picks, both game changers/savers.

Offense got it done when needed, but the play calling appeared, to this naive observer, to be predictable and uninspired. The Bucknell defensive front is massive...

Looking forward to tomorrow at 11am! GO GATE.

About as ugly as it can get. Thank god for our defense, but there are things that need shoring up in the off season. The playoffs will be tough.

[> [> Defense came into its own over the season -- Andy Kerr, 11/21/15 5:24:26pm Sat

The Bucknell game was a classic defensive battle.
Difficult to completely pass judgment on the Gate O..
Melville's passing game looked good in the 1st half, albeit all to Maddaluna. In the second half, his passing wasn't completely on target and his receivers seemed to be well covered. The slippage in passing may have also been from a pocket that wasn't able to hold off the pressure very long from the Bison beasts on D. Seemed like the Bison D. scheme had a spotter on Jake to minimize his running options. Missing the change-up in running style from a battering ram like Wilkens can not be underestimated. The three-headed monster is effective in keeping the D on its toes, and gives Jake a bit more room for finding openings in the D.

This year has been a good step forward. But, there isn't that much that separates the top teams in the league. This group seems like they have the energy and character to build momentum from this year's success.
I hope the playoffs don't destroy the self-esteem that they built up over the season, especially the D.

Just back from the game, was pleasantly surprised at the turnout... I think a little better than last week vs. Lehigh. Not everybody was in the woods! Bucknell's D was as advertised, and we were pretty flat on O. D played very well though both INTs were bad throws by their qb, and I thought his knee was down prior to the 4Q fumble. Whatever, we'll take it! Undefeated in the PL, and on to the playoffs!

Saw Vicky at halftime & she thought we'd have a shot at a home game with a win. My choices for next weekend; either in Hamilton for the home playoff game, or with an away game driving my mother in-law to the airport. I need some karma tomorrow at 11!

No, I was not at the game! But from the feed it did look like the Bison QB had his knee down. The announcers even said as much and the replays (about 9 times) seemed to confirm that, but there's no video review at this level, as you know. Have to give props to Bucknell; they played tough and their D is a beast.

As to attendance, from what I saw there were more fannies at the Lehigh game. Absolutely had to be under 400 citizens there....and I was not one of them, sorry to say.

This was not pretty but it's a W. Congrats to the team on a perfect PL slate and the 7-4 record. At the start of the season, going 0-3, many thought this would be a bummer of a year. But the turnaround happened and Coach Hunt deserves COTY for getting this team to the top of the league and into the playoffs. Looks like it could the Richmond or Jim Madison.

Thought the team was somewhat flat throughout the game but it was the Bison who have a very good D. Not a good move by Maddaluna to try and leap over the defender. He came down hard and it appeared he may have been feeling the effects the rest of the game. Hope Ty McCollum is okay but when he left the field it didn't look good.
I have heard it could be St. Francis at home or Duquesne away. Go 'gate, get the first of the playoff games.

Big play by 47 to run down the Bucknell player on the long pass--amazing that he caught him. Saved four points and maybe the game. Smart by 22 to stay in bounds at the end to keep the clock running. 62 with 11 tackles. He just keeps getting better and better. D played great (really just gave up the three big plays--two of them trick plays) and also made a ton of plays when they mattered the most. Hope 23 is ready for next week. Good to see 66 able to play for the last series--assumed he was hurt. 15 played better than his stats show. Team had the most drops its had in a while--good to get those out of the way! Was 29 on the field at the end? Such a good player. Great to see the screen to him--teams are going to bring pressure--that is such a good play to counter it--great to see 73 15 yards down the field on that play. Would think 15 could do a lot with pump fakes--worked today except for the turf monster.

Colgate was 0-3 and down 14-3 right before half against Holy Cross. Team is now 7-4 and has gotten very good at winning games. Really great to see someone different stepping up every week. Need a few to step up this week!

Go 'gate! Beat UNH!!!

I watch the games on my computer so I can tell you that 37 is Afreeyah, 10 is Castello, 29 is Maddalana, and sometimes Quazza plays for the other team.

I did learn a tremendous amount from Tatum the sideline reporter during the Georgetown game and I carry that knowledge with me today.

[> Future's post is all blabber - here's why -- Gate Raider, 11/22/15 8:05:09pm Sun

Future is looking through Maroon glasses and is off the mark. This was not a good offensive game by CU. Scoring 14 points won't get it done in the majority of games and against UNH.
47's run down on the big play - was necessary because the CB's and safeties didn't do their job.
22 staying in bounds- that is what he was been instructed.
D played great - well, they played okay. Got fooled twice and got 2 INT's, gave up 295 yards passing, gave up 15 first downs, and 'gate had 8 penalties for 70 yards.
15 played better than stats show - Foolish remark. No one plays better than the stats show.
Good to get drops out of the way - Dumb comment. Drops aren't apportioned. Having some doesn't mean they are over.
29 good player - yes, but really stupid leap. He came up woozy, lucky he wasn't hurt, I'm sure he is sore today.
screens - won't get it done against a good team.
pump fakes - have negligible effect and 15 doesn't have time for them plus they don't work at all with the read option which Colgate uses so often.
I am happy they got the win but keep it in the proper perspective. Colgate better start completing passes to more receivers than Maddaluna and Russell and the DB's better have a really good day to stop UNH passes. Colgate has a chance win the game but they must get a lot of points and yards on the ground and control the clock.

It's pathetic for the few of us who probably represent the core level of University interest in this football team and its +/- 125 years of history to waste time denigrating the efforts of our fellow posters on this Board. We are in the Playoffs, we were undefeated in the League; the Team improved in significant measures week by week, and virtually everybody is back next year (with all due praise to the Seniors who have been so valuable and who may have a game or two to go). No penalties, No missed tackles. No turnovers. Be bold. Mix things up. Own the clock.( And every poster needs to be at UNH. But based on my recollection of the pregame tailgate before the last playoff game there, back in the Jordan Scott era, be sure to wear waterproof boots because the tailgate/parking area is a swamp in good weather and an artic tundra in November).

Gate Raider,

jb '74, I think you're right on all points--and certainly the mud in the parking lot. Would imagine it can't be much better with it being a construction site. I do like the venue, though. Good, loud fans. This would be a great win for Colgate. Be bold and get after it.
