I am not against playing Navy, Army, Syracuse and similar programs or top FCS schools. What bothers me is starting each year with two or three losses which, I don't think, builds the players' or team's confidence. It's made worse if the first three games are away as fan interest in Colgate football wanes. This year is a good example. We start with three losses and the next home game is 6 weeks away. What the heck kind of schedule is that? Five weeks with no home game. Fans will have forgotten Colgate has a football team by then and it will be November and the weather will have turned. And, can you believe Colgate scheduled the Cornell hockey game on the same day as the Lehigh football game? Colgate needs people in the seats and it is winning teams with home games that put them there. Sparse attendance at games means no one cares and the program is weakened and eventually in jeopardy. I am more than happy to have an Albany, Stony Brook, Wagner for an early season home game

We've started the year 0-3 before and had very successful seasons, so don't give up the ship. I agree about the long layoff between home games this year. We definitely need more games in early fall to bring out the fans and take advantage of the weather - which will only go downhill come November. Everyone will be thinking hockey by then anyway.

I have the utmost respect for what the Monmouths and Bryants of the world have achieved football-wise, I just don't like to see their names on our schedule. Army, Navy or Air Force looks better and is a more attractive draw for recruits and alums/fans.
