Several state contestants where crowned after the state pageants and in one case the fee was paid by nationals(2 of these girls won) allegedly to keep another girl from winning. At the pageant things where disorganized and the same girl that had her entry paid for(allegedly)acted like she was natl staff and had rehearsal ended early so she had 30 min more to get ready. As a result the white dress number looked awful at the end. We ran out of music and girls put their hand up randomly since we missed the cue. The outgoing titleholder purposely avoided paying for the rental car that several contestants shared and when the natl staff was asked about it they refused to help find her(She was in one of the staff members van 10 feet away). At least one contestant was told that a sponsor never sent a prize but every other contest in the top five received theirs. The director and the queen I mentioned before where very rude to the photographer who refused to come back(studio primetime took the photos for the 09 pageant). After the pageant questions where raised regarding DASH and the fact that the pageant board was the same as the DASH board. Instead of answering the questions Connie avoided them until some of the girls became concerned about fraud. The director finally answered the questions after a similar question of mine was covered on Valerie Hayes radio show. This was after a few contestants where threatened by the director(including myself) and one even had her title pulled. In 2009 the pageant was moved to a ballroom and The director made a big deal about passing the reins over to the Georgia director. It was discovered later by me that it was a farce. The old staff was still in charge but the new director was one taking the heat caused by the old directors mistakes the prior year. Basically they changed the cover of the book to make everyone think things had changed but the story was the same. Just before the 2010 pageant the new director had a loss in her family and appointed 3 queens. I was supposed to be the miss queen and was promised the regalia overnight only to get an email saying that because of an issue from 08 I could not be queen. I found out later through the header that the queen who had her entry paid in 08 was behind it. That was the last time there was even a peep from that system. I heard it was a real dud. and now it's canceled, so I figure it died a natural death. too bad about AQ 02:17:42 09/14/12 Fri Sorry got them mixed up! AI was originally a pageant designed by contestants for contestants but in its second year Deb Dyer had some health issues and the new director changed everything. There were even several different crowns that year. The changes where far from the original concept and from what I heard pageant weekend was not organized well. I also know that the director got involved with some voy board nastyness only to find out that what she had been told was not true. I had another contestant tell me I was lucky I tore a tendon in my foot and could not compete. -- Ms Illinois AI 2009, 16:58:39 09/26/12 Wed I have to agree. I was with a friend who competed, didn't want to, but she had paid before the change of directors. She was so upset at the changes, the mess, the switch in titles, crowns and awards, that she wished she'd never gone. It looks like everyone bailed anyway, so it's defunct now.
