For a moment, Shula simply cannot believe his ears. This female has led her pack to fight his over -food- when their territory is dozens of leagues away?! What irresponsible creature would be so foolish and so idiotic as to challenge the masters -the only Korats with a hope of killing Wureshi himself someday- when they're weakened by defeating hundreds of spawn? What kind of pack leader would bring her Korats to fight and die on soil far from their home against their own kindred whose lives have been dedicated to ridding Lavana of a menace to them all? What madness possesses this tan!?

Erashun is as silent and as cold as a living glacier, a beast carved from impenetrable ice and steel who stands motionless amidst the thick network of boughs. His mind is hard on the enemy, and the barest traces of her telepathing buzz at the edges of his senses. She has given an order, though he doesn't know what it was. A long, low growl ripples out, a wordless snarl of warning to Shula, and the white inhales deeply as he smells the pain of a tree. Li'fai is breaking his own code.

Tew, however, is recovering as his body goes totally lax against his fellow pack second's flank to absorb the wild, whipping energy that may be his key to life and a chance to fight. His once-bright golden fur is lackluster, thin, and slightly singed, and his baby-blue eyes are half-lidded and glazed, but the thin tan can feel his body and spirit recovering as he steals Atumi's own energy. He's a bit surprised that such a technique is working -- he didn't think his black friend the type to share. Especially when in such a rage...

And oh, Atumi is indeed in a rage. No coherent thoughts pass behind those too-bright teal orbs, pupils and whites submerged beneath the luminance of energy. Torrents of air and tree-pain and his own life-force spiral in maddening gales around him, bringing only demi-impressions of light, shadow, and scent to his fury-numbed mind. The press of another energy close to him is instantly identified as Zrego's own unexpected power flaring up -- the taint of anger and desperation is Jysulehn's clenched grip to control herself -- the touch of fur against his flank and weakness helpless against his power is Tew's. The black realizes, slowly and jaggedly, that his packmates are going to get killed if he can't take down a large chunk of this opposing pack. And if he doesn't allow Tew to leech off his own life, the tan will be the first to fall. Atumi snarls thickly.

Shula absorbs more than seeks out the various stimuli that channel into his system, informing him of his pack's arrival and moods and weaknesses, of the enemy's positions and power, of the silent scream that drills into his skull as the tree upon which Atumi crouches is drained of its precious life-force. The red feels the odds tilt against him and his, and he echoes his 'second's snarl with a half-roar of rebellious anger.

But his voice is cold and steely, as though Erashun had spoken through the red in his arctic silence. "You, stranger, would tell me to turn away mates with cubs who beg me for shelter and safety and a home. You would have me stop the continuation of our race. You, whose pack is nearly as large as my own, would tell me that our carefully managed prey herds are excessive and wrong. You would have us starve so that... what, stranger? You would have us die so that others in this area, mostly non-Korats, could hunt our prey? You compare me to Wureshi, who would rape you, steal the cubs that would come of this, and then slaughter you?" Twin snarls, one crackling and the other thunderous, rip from Atumi and Erashun at this. "The Korats who stand before you are the force that defeated an entire army that would have otherwise killed every Korat in sight and taken every fertile female! The Korats who stand before you live by the warrior's code and do not hunt or breed to excess! The Korats who stand before you will fight you, stranger, to protect our families and our lands. We will kill you all if you do not leave -- do not doubt this. You have brought your Korats to us, stranger. You have brought them to die against those who fight against the most dangerous Korat on this world for -them-."
