Several chunks of wood and soil hit Noni, giving her sides and back painful bruises. Mercifully, all but the smallest miss the black's head. Instead of leaving the ensuing dirt cloud, she throws up a great ring of golden fire around herself and the scrabbling white. This was her fight, and no one else's; any pity she had felt is sent to btsa by the lack of understanding.
The dust has not settled yet, and Noni's fiery orbs are not looking upon the world. Her well trained ears are at attention, and the white's paws on the ground, as well as her heartbeat, become easily perceptible. The black sidesteps the charge just in time to save herself from an ignominious crash. She is close to the wall of flames now, eyes still closed, and the white would get burned again if she pounced now. Once again, Noni focuses her energy, but this time it is subtle and insidious; the "fire" she taps into is the heat within her opponent's own body. It might not work, she had never done it without physical contact with her opponent, but if she could burn this one from the inside out, her satisfaction would outweigh her regrets for a few minutes any way.
