The territory's north section is very rocky, with steep hills speckled with boulders, lichen, and moss. There are still trees, but they aren't of the giant breed; smaller and more crooked, these blue-trunked and violet-leafed beauties grow exceptionally well in poor soil. During the summer, rain tends to miss this area, and during the winter, snow blankets the entire area, making for some dangerous walking. This is where Atumi tends to train his students.

The wind is warm as it caresses silken black fur that shines with a healthy gloss. A lithe, powerful tail slowly uncoils from sculpted limbs and lowers to dangle loosely, the velvet-grey blade glittering in the light. "You both are equally tired. Do you wish to stop for the day?" The liquid tenor is emotionless, silent in a strange way, but were li'dyn to see his expression, the male's brilliant gaze is cocked backwards, expectant. Jrehkehd has fled -- the training was too difficult, the trainer too harsh and demanding. How will his other prized students hold up? Will they push themselves, or will he drag them forcefully through the process that will result in a fearsome master?

Atumi wonders how they will respond; his thoughts are secret, and not scent nor body betrays him.

Shadows fall from the limbs of trees as they weaken with length, darkness condensing into the long-legged black as he slows to a casual lope forward. Atumi's retaining his unusually good mood... or, he was, until he sees his favorite rock...

"Chelbdi...!" The liquid snarl holds more anger in it than a red's battle cry as the male stops in front of his halved monolith, shapely ears flattened to a silken skull and pearly teeth revealed in full. "I'll rip that arrogant frante's soul out and use it as target practice!" An infuriated coughsnort follows the threat as, quivering, the pack second stares at his beloved rock. Cut in two lengthwise by pure Erauq energy, one half stands unfazed while the other is shattered into large chunks on the ground next to it.

It takes Atumi several minutes to calm down enough to use his honed senses to make sense of what happened. Tew had also been here, and he and Chelbdi had argued... Ah. The black dips his sculpted muzzle in a suddenly-knowing nod to no one in particular, remembering that Shula had agreed to discuss territory boundaries with the Erauq alpha yesterday. Likely the red has completely forgotten now; hopefully Tew will remind him. Speaking of reminding, Atumi remembers his students and turns to them, ears pricking back up and pelt smoothing again.

A brief, mirthless grin is flashed at all three. "Each of you tell me everything you know or have ever heard about the usage of energy. Then tell me what you know you can do, what you think you can do, and what you know you cannot do." Which will give me plenty with which to prove you wrong, he adds to himself with a wicked grin tugging at his muzzle.

As exhausted as he is, Tew's brilliant golden form can be glimpsed as a mere blur as he streaks in a rather reckless pelting run from the battlefield north-eastwards. Pupils are dilated, skewing his pretty blue eyes and making the good-natured tan look almost feral; dulled claws make it difficult to grip the rocky bark as well as normally, so the young male keeps his altitude low. Why those... idiots don't... bother warning... anyone else about... this blasted... Oh suns. I smell him already... The pack second's thoughts are as ragged and unsteady as his breathing, but he barely notices as he shoots past two black females and flings himself onto Atumi's favorite monolith. Crouching and clinging to the rounded top, rounded eyes peer northwards... and then upwards at the faint sound of feathers.

Blast oh blast oh blast oh--

Lightning seems to arc downwards from the distant noise, a blued bolt of energy that seems very strange coming from a cloudless sky.

BLAST!

Tew throws his gangly frame forward, tumbling mid-air and burying his head under his forehands as the 'lightning' strikes the monolith, cracking it neatly in half. Atumi's gonna kill me for letting that happen. "Get out of here!" he belatedly yells to the two adolescents, whipcracking his long tail in emphasis. But as the tan stands once more, lean limbs quivering with tension and already-earned weariness, the source of the lightning descends.

Smaller than the tan with a shoulder-height of 3.5', the beast is undeniably canine. Long-legged, compact and reasonably muscular, two broad, blued-feathered wings are folded to its flanks as its dull-clawed paws touch down. A long, sinuous tail is covered in sharp quills, and extremely large eyes look expressionlessly towards the Korat. A long, straight, blade-like horn grows from the middle of its forehead, large ears pricking back up as the bluish glow fades.

Lightning indeed.

"Botsa ze... nu, Chelbdi," Tew mutters, forcing politeness and a very fake grin. The tawny canine growls, ears flattening again as its crimson eyes seem to radiate a bit of light on their own. "Where Shula." Tew mentally grumbles something about non-fluent Lavanians before replying with falsetto cheer, "Occupied with pack matters. I'm afraid he'll have to speak with you tomor--"

"Get Shula now. Go." An almost soprano growl accompanies this order, the older male ruffling his feathers importantly. Tew resists the impulse to roll his eyes, knowing that'd get him electrocuted for good. "I can't. He's busy, Chelbdi. Tomorrow." The Erauq is obviously displeased... pack leaders are never made to wait by piddling pack seconds... and Tew dodges the next thick bolt of energy that lashes out from the canine's horn. This one hits the fallen half of the already-broken monolith, vaporizing it.

"Tomorrow, Chelbdi." Tew's ears flatten; just because Erauqs don't use pack seconds doesn't mean his own Koratian rank is nullified. Already-small crimson irises contract and this time, Tew uses his jagged tailblade to block the weaker beams that shoot from the canine's eyes.

Annoyance duly expressed, the Erauq turns and leaps into the sky, powerful wings carrying his canine frame higher with surprising speed. Tew waits until even his senses can't detect the male and then sighs, glancing over his shoulder at the one half of the monolith still upright, sliced cleanly in half as though Shula himself had done it. The tan shakes his head; their northern neighbors can be quite aggressive. And mentally unstable, but that's simply a racial trait.

Jhael's wounds are passably healed now as Noni takes her to the north and shows her where she will likely be studying. There will definitely be scars across Jhael's throat and chest, and it is a miracle that she is alive, let alone able to speak. Her eye is no doubt lost forever, the golden blade's furious downward arc having sliced it neatly in half and torn it from the socket. But Jhael is unnervingly calm. She's used to diamen like that happening to her. It just happened to be permanent diamen this time.
The two blacks sit now, facing each other.
"Tell me, Jhael," Noni says, gold eyes shining brightly, with tears perhaps.
"I was sickly as a cub," Jhael mutters, beginning to pace in a circle around Noni, never looking at her former enemy for shame.
"Ta'miri would have killed you."
"He tried. Someone showed up and interrupted him. I don't even know who it was. A short while later he ended up killing mri'mai. I had a brother who was striped, too, but I think he's dead."
"No. If you're really my age, it would've had to to be Zrego."
"He lived, then?" Jhael's voice contains no emotion, just a question.
"Yes, he lived, and he's here with the pack. I imagine you two are the last of your litter if the others fought."
"I won't say anything to him yet."
"A wise decision, I think."
"Hmph. Anyway, mri'miri gave me no name, as you guessed, figuring i would die soon enough. No one else bothered to until I did. Jhael means 'forgotten,' in that dialect. Appropriate don't you think?" She gave a derisive bark of a laugh. "I always liked to subtly contradict him when he had his back turned."
"Brave of you."
"Not especially. He was almost always eyeing me like a wounded Preda'Ben, anyway. But he trained me. I guess that's something, even if I was always just 'Hey, you!' But he has left me and the others for dead, and I do not care remotely for his ways anymore. Now, Noni, you tell me." And Jhael sits, single eye fixed piercingly on the other Korat.
"I though I had it rough. My people just don't like me. I imagine if I had been born with tan stripes it would be about the same. I never found out a reason."
"You're good with energy, aren't you? I saw what you did to three of my siblings. I heard them screaming. I've never heard any scion of my father scream. Are you sure they're not all scared to btsa of you?"
"They don't even know and probably won't care if Atumi tells them. Losing mri'fre Etharat was a great blow to them, but my death would likely have passed unnoticed."
"Likewise. I... I'm sorry..." The words and the full emotion are strange to her. Glimmers of it had pierced the iron exterior Wureshi's almost constant vigilance had lent her heart.
"I am sorry I took your eye."
"Where's my blade?"
"I took it from beside what I thought was your corpse. It's in the clearing. I hope you don't mind I... uh..."
"Carved it? I guess that's all right. I mean, you thought I was dead, didn't you?"
"Had me fooled."
"So what did you..."
"You. You as you should have been, and now as you will be. I think you will find a home here, even though the others won't trust you right off. I'm not exactly sure what to think either, frankly."
"I understand."
The pair continue to converse on far friendlier terms than anybody would believe had they witnessed the events of only a few hours ago.

A flash of shadow from the trees lands itself flat on a rock and draws itself up, blinking golden eyes at the scenery. What better place for an angst-filled morning? Her tail curling around her with mirror-bright blade laid on the rock, Noni begins to carve a new image into it. Making minute scratches in its shining surface, she portrays a Korat, standing proudly amidst the rocks she sees before her. Her head and bladed tail are held high despite her wounds, and she stands over the fallen form of another, triumphant. The picture becomes incredibly detailed as she works; the proud warrioress' bared teeth are all carved accurately, and the few grasses that peep through the rough soil here are perfectly rendered.
"At least I can do something right," she whispers, and feeling the sun warm her black fur, with all its shadowy hints of dusks and dawns to come, she curls up on the rock and dozes off, unaware of exactly what had transpired here some hours ago.

A cold wind.

Mechanic paws tink quietly over the rocky ground, stealth tossed aside to the yearning breezes. In slow, measured strides, the Korat moves away from the pack she still felt seperate from, as hard as she had tried to... not fit in, but be respected by everyone she offered her own respect to. Everyone. Sombrely, the hybrid advances on her unseen goal. The softly-howling zephyr peaks, moaning desperately around the Sentinel, riffling at her heavily-scarred pelt. Click. Click. The dulled, darkened adamantine gives a final glisten as the sun hits it just right, before being swathed in veiling stormclouds. Clink. Clink. The only noise apart from the wind.

Heartbeat? Breathing? What are those? What blood pulses through dead veins?

All an illusion... all to hide what this lone beast truly is...

A monster... impure... could she even take the honoured title of 'Korat?'

Did she even have the right to live in this state?

Questions mirror in her lone grey eye, a scintillating rememberance of her true life, as persecuted and hunted as it was. And Deyt walks on, walks on.

The black slowly paces into the circle of his students, teal eyes uncharacteristically dull. "Listen up," he murmurs, settling to his haunches and curling his tail about his paws, the velvet-grey blade lusterless in the clouded sunlight. "This next lesson is very simple, it takes very little time, but it must be practiced daily to have any real effect. For some of you, it may take a year; others may only need a month of solid practice to see a creditable difference. I am going to tell you what to do, and then let you practice for a while. I have things to attend to. Mri'fao Tasiri will keep an eye on you; she knows these exercises well and will answer any questions you may have." A silently dark look filters through those usually-luminous orbs and the supple black flicks an ear as though tossing away an unpleasant thought. "Consider Tasiri your trainer for the time being. I will not be gone very long, but until then, give her the respect that you do me." Another muted glint of malice, not directed at his pupils, shines forth briefly.

"These exercises will train your senses to go beyond what is considered possible. As some of you may have noticed, my senses are a tenfold keener than those of any Korat here. My pack, my birth-pack, taught these exercises to the cubs when they turned a year old, and they were told to practice them once a day until they died. I did not, but I practiced them long enough to hone my senses very nicely." The beautiful Korat lets out an inaudible sigh, his normal intensity strangely absent. "Focus on one sense at a time. Start with hearing, then eyesight, then smell, taste, and touch. When you listen, shut everything else from your other senses out. Completely. Your ears are all you have to know the world, and you must rely solely on them for the time being. Focus on one single sound - your own breathing, or the blood rushing through a compatriot's veins. See how detailed you can perceive the sound to be. Then switch to another sound, and another, until you have listened with your whole soul to every little sound that you can hear. Settle back into your senses, and move to sight, blacking everything else out. Focus on one single color, and try to name its exact hue. Try to see not shapes but shadows and patches of light, or areas of similar color. Then focus on movement, and hone your eyesight not only to focus in on detail, but to go outwards and see distant objects with absolute clarity. Do all of this with everything that you can see. Become aware of all senses again, then narrow yourself down to your nose. Sift through the scents drifting on the wind, identifying each one. Pinpoint each texture and each scent's location. Memorize the scents, most specifically those of your packmates, so that a mere whiff will tell you exactly who is who. Go on to taste, combining it with smell to better sense the wind. Then touch, blacking out all of your other senses to feel the tiny air currents, the earth under your paws, and the vastness of space around you. Try to sense your packmates' locations by the air currents twisting around their bodies."

Atumi falls silent, a slight grin tugging at his muzzle as he recalls his old pack leader reciting those exact instructions to a fidgety group of younglings who would rather be tusseling and exploring. "Do these, and eventually, the whole set of exercises will take you no more than a half hour each night. You'll have plenty of time to do them before you fall asleep... for the time being. I don't have plans to work you to death in the near future, but this might change." The black's liquid tenor is unusually flat, but he twists his sleek muzzle in a half-shrug. "This is Tasiri," he adds tonelessly, flicking a silky ear towards her.

The pale-gold tan nods to the group, settling down next to Atumi and almost smiling as her petite frame is dwarfed by the well-built black. The male had already named off his students on the way back, putting in physical identifiers to help the femme recognize each one. Effortlessly silent, Atumi rises, clinks blades with Tasiri gently, and slips out of sight, heading northwards and out of the territory. The tan sends a smoothing ripple down her clean pelt, watching the blacks around her with impassive amethyst eyes.

Atumi perches lightly on one particularly noticeable monolith, only twenty feet high but about two in diameter. Pale grey blade clinking musically against the metallic rock, the ebony warrior waits patiently for his students to arrive.

Jeggi slows her lope, schools her expression into a fairly neutral one, and settles onto her haunches a few meters from the base of the towering rock, sculpted muzzle pointed at Atumi. Arrogant esh that he is, she'll have to watch her tongue now -- they're no longer on the same level. One pointed ear flicks at the thought, but nothing shows except readiness in her emerald gaze.
