Hi! I have recently found some old friends on the Web, but none from Mary Queen of Heaven, where I went to school between 1969 and 1973. My sister Lillian was there from 1967 to 1973. Does anyone remember the teachers like Sister Sean Ann, or the rotten Mrs. Reddy? Or the nuns who used to ring that gigantic bell between periods?

>How funny!!! I have not found anyone from MQH either. The name Lillian piazza sounds familiar. Everyone hated Miss Reddy, but she was one of my favorites. I guess I needed her strickedness. TO this day I tell my kids about her! I also had Ms Rayano, Mr Holt, Sr Denise, Sr Henrietta Clare (HEN), Sr Margaret Mary (Moron), and I can't remember her name but we called her NOSE!!!

Check out Classmates, they just added elementry schools!

I attended MQH from 1972 to 1977 and remember several of the teachers you guys have mentioned. Nose's name was Sister Margaret Mary. A little high-strung, she was. My favorite story was when she walked into a classroom, scrunched up that ski-jump nose, and announced (deadly seriously), "I smell . . . bubble gum!" I believe it, the gum might've been in some kid's pocket at PS 203, but I believe it. There was another Sister Margaret Mary who taught 6th grade, and looked like John Wayne, although I think the Duke was a little more easy going. Sister Henrietta was another story. Frequently when she was supposed to be teaching, she'd go off on errands and leave the kids themselves in charge. When I think of the sacrifices a lot of the parents made to pay for tuition, I have to say that sort of thing bothers me years later. Anyway, all in all, I liked the teachers very much (e.g., Mrs. Silvestri, Miss Lynch, Ms. Cahill/Connors, Miss Spera), got an excellent education, and made friendships that have lasted more than 20 years now. BTW, although I've moved away, I have two nephews at MQH and Mrs. Cerchione is still there! Hello also to Peter V., I don't know if you remember me, but I recall that you were one of the more studious kids, and who can forget your production of "The Trouble with Tribbles"?

Hi Lisa,

I was at MQH slightly before your time (62-66)and I hardly remember any names from my class but I have vivid memories, like you. I guess I would be considered the eighth grade class of '70. I literally sutmbled on this message site and I subsequently found other related sites to Carnarsie as well. I only attended grades 1-4, before moving out to the Island (where else!). I do remember a Miss Reddy and seem to remember her being a mild to moderate witch from hell. I seem to remember another lunatic, high strung nun (Sister Eileen Theresa?). My third and fourth grade teachers were Ms's Dooley and Baron, respectively. Look forward to hearing from you or anyone else from this time period in that far off and distant galaxy from a long, long time ago!

Joe,

I graduated in 1966 but don't remember you. We had a good education, but some of those nuns were crazy. I decided not to send my son to Catholic school, although I think things have changed a lot.

Does anyone remember Miss Reddy's first name? I had her for two years and she was awful

Hi Lisa!

Good to see that you still remember some of the old teachers...I heard from Ann that you are still in touch. Are you living in Staten Island?

Hope all is well.....

I attended MQH from 1969 - 1975 (when we moved upstate). I had Sr. Sean Ann in 1st grade, and I also had Mrs. Reddy, Mrs. Piccolo, Mrs. Spera, Mrs. Burroughs and Mrs. Chiccone (sp?). We lived on E 54th street, and my brother Eddie also attended MQH. I have lost touch with most of the old neighborhood, though am still in close contact with Margaret Mary Michael (now Catalano). They were hard on us at MQH, but I for one came out with an excellent education and wonderful memories. Would love to hear from anyone that remembers me! katwalker63@yahoo.com

>I went to Mary Queen of Heaven from 1968-1976. I have some of my best memories from that school. I think they are fonder than high school memories. We had a reunion the year after I graduated, nothing since. I would love to reunite with some of the people I went there with. I still talk to Kerry Buckley and Lisa Gioviniello. I lived right across the street on 57th.

If anyone remembers me and wants to email, please do.
