These non-corporal punishments include (but are not necessarily limited to) such things as write-offs ("lines"), loss of privileges, loss of allowance, extra chores, early bedtime, grounding (four levels, described generally as; 1. grounded to house/yard, 2. Grounded to house, 3. grounded to room and with all amenities in room such as toys, computer, MP3 player/strereo/CD Player, books, games, visitors, etc., 4. A "no life" grounding- NO computer (except as needed for immediate school use, and then only until school-work is done), MP3 player/stereo-CD player/radio, no TV, no toys, no games, no books (except schoolbooks, and only until homework is done), no visitors, essentialy NO anything except boredom and time to reflect. Meals in room.
What determines when we use these non-corporal punishments in lieu of or in addition to spanking is determined by mitigating or aggravating (such as a repetition of the offending behavior despite former punishments used) factors in the offense for which we are punishing in the first place.
