It was first occurred last fall a month before the most recent Miss USA competition. This year it will be doing it again, that will increase to 11 to include Greenwood states. Thom recently did an interview with The Pageant Project and he said that last year, 5 of the 8 appointed states did not recieve any applications from women with ties to those states. Those states would not have been represented if they were strict with the residency rules. Highly recommend watching this interview if you want to understand what Thom's vision for Miss USA/Teen USA are and how the team he's put together plan to elevate the brand.
