Subject: Rumor is we are no longer to refer to ourselves as a “Scholarship “ organization but rather as a “service” organization. There goes our historic program!

The two big Miss systems with Talent really should just combine at this point. MVA had SERVE Initiative, MAO had Comminity Service Initiative. MVA is , "The Miss Volunteer America is a nationwide, service-oriented scholarship program," and now MAO is a Service organization. What is happening lol (NT)No name

Robyn avoids paying scholarships at all costs so it’s better to call it a “service organization” rather than continue the charade about national level scholarships. On the other hand, MVA pays its scholarships and treats its girls welll. (NT)No name

Miss America did not start as a scholarship organization. It was after WWII that scholarships were added. Lenora S. Was the driving force behind those scholarships and she routinely added more during her tenure. That was at a time when very few women even attended college. Women had little opportunity for scholarships. Even platforms or service initiatives did not exist until the 1980’s. That really took off in the nineties. So, really scholarship or service has not always been a part of Miss America. They are both changes from different eras. (NT)No name
