Mimi Hymel wrote this from her experience in the org for 9 years:

Nothing but love for the girls I truly do love—many of you ❤️

I started competing at 14, full of hope and chasing a dream. 9 years later, I’m walking away with an anxiety disorder, pressure to develop an eating disorder, and painful experiences from leadership. While I couldn’t speak up then, I can now, and I will.

To anyone considering competing: yes, the glamour and getting dressed up was fun. I did gain real skills. But the truth is, in my experience year to year, the results often felt less about the performance and more to do with politics. You can learn everything I did in a far more supportive, joyful, and emotionally safe environment.

Although I received my in-kind scholarship directly from the university, the rest of my scholarship money from the org— which I was told I’d earned — was never paid out. I submitted all the required forms, followed up multiple times, and ultimately graduated without ever receiving those funds. I know I’m not alone in that.

Thank you to everyone who believed in me and supported me and this organization over the years. Your impact is real and lasting. I especially want to thank Coulter Infiniti for your incredible generosity. It meant the world for me to bring you on as a sponsor to let Miss AZ drive an Infiniti. I was saddened to learn the sponsorship wasn’t continued this year.

This is the end of an era for me. And while it’s ending on a bitter note (not because of any results), it’s also the beginning of my healing and my voice. ✨
