Subject: She was a Ukrainian orphan, adopted at 12, and came to Mississippi. The state didn't have a reaction because she is still a cookie cutter, beautiful girl, with a deep southern accent. Nobody would even know she spent half her life in the Ukraine. In fact, she's the only person I know who after living in the Ukraine for her first 12 years doesn't have that accent at all. Subject Author Date The accent doesn't surprise me at all. That's about the right age for the development of accents. It being a deep southern accent, is understandable that she would naturally speak English with a southern accent. Most children don't develop their accents fully until adolescents. If that's where she learned the majority of English. That's the explanation. But also, close family/friends having a strong southern accent, would also affect the childs development of the English language with an accent.
