From what I’ve seen & heard, the board just doesn’t have the time & effort to put into it. Contestants, volunteers, and support has dwindled down to almost nothing. Former contestants and supporters are alienated & ignored (even if they’ve previously raised thousands for the organization). The same families are always involved and have a heavy influence on the organization. It’s just not a welcoming organization if you are not on their good side. Tale as old as time in the MAO- a small, power hungry group who likes to feel important (and hide any shenanigans) by controlling who's in and who's out, ignores and alienates new blood asking to volunteer. Yet, that same state board isn't doing anything to expand the program- they get to go to Miss America every year, no matter who wins. That causes the quality of scholarships, sponsors, and contestants to degrade as the state board is more interested in themselves than the program. After yearsss of not being held accountable, they end up with 4 contestants in their state pageant. (NT) I wonder how much they were charging at-large...
