Interestingly, the last Miss Utah-USA who became Miss USA was also involved a resignation---Mary Leona Gage was forced to resign in 1957 due to be married with children, and runner-up Charlotte Sheffield took over. No word if the current Miss Universe 2023 is to also resign...but if Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua does, Central America will be involved in a second Miss Universe resignation flap. Miss Universe 2002, Oxana Fedorova reigned and Panama's Yostin "Justine" Pasek took over.
