 Khanyal is like a little brother to me. The little brother that you can't play with because you might break all of his bones.

Still... His situation is similar to mine, in a strange sort of way. His mother was the Ace of Spades- Ace of the leading suit of the leading clan. There were high expectations on him from the day after his birth- because that was when she became an Ace.

Her life was taken at the same time as my mothers, but he was already the Three of Cups when it happened. He's always been an amazing little healer, so he advanced further and faster than what I think is fitting for someone his age.

Anyway.... His father passed away last winter, so he's being raised by the King of Cups and King of Coins.

You're probably aware of this already, but a while ago, there was a very brief but very dramatic shift in the universal balance. Something happened then, it freaked out the higher Face Cards and the Cardless Priests. They've been.... Particularly desperate for Aces since then. I think they're expecting something big to happen, and they want to make sure that there's something to sacrifice to stop it.

I get the impression that Khanyel knows more that he lets on. Laeger has told me the same thing, as have some of the less spirited people who bear the marks of the gods. We're ALL quite convinced that something is going on that he has become involved in, because he gives off the vibe that he wants out of something that we aren't aware of. Anytime I ask him about it, he just kind of... ignores me.

Laeger has been making an effort to stay out of the face cards. He's even managed to be demoted once or twice because he has been intentionally making mistakes in his duty. They're starting to think that he's noticed something wrong, as well.

I think that Laeger and I are the only two left who are truly free- the others all have broken wills, and Khanyal is in a bad position that I don't know how to free him from.
