Rachel Jasmin Cruz Encarnacion

Born on July 27, 1990 at Mount Diablo Hospital in Concord, California, Rachel Jasmin Cruz Encarnacion was born to parents, Rey & Rose. She is the youngest sister of Rita Jo Rose and Ruth Jamie.

Rachel attended Saint Agnes Elementary School from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. After 9 years of academic excellence and success in her extra-curricular activities, for which she received many awards, she graduated in 2004 as the female student speaker.

Rachel attended Carondelet High School in Concord where she continued to be involved in several extra-curriculars while keeping up with a rigorous course-load. Through her extra-curriculars and academic standing, Rachel was able to attend special conferences at a few colleges in California and New York. She was also able to tour Italy with the Concert Choir in the summer of 2008, where they sang at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City, the Duomo in Florence, and San Marco in Venice. Just prior to this tour, Rachel graduated with several awards regarding her outstanding academic performance and community service, and was a candidate for both Valedictorian and Salutatorian of her class. She was also chosen to be the Homilist at her class Baccalaureate Mass.

In the fall of 2008, Rachel began her undergraduate career at Leland Stanford Junior University in Stanford, California which she was able to attend by being awarded a scholarship from the Srinivasan Family Scholarship Fund each of her four years of undergrad. There, she continued to strive for academic excellence while taking on a difficult pre-medical academic course load and attending several practices a week for four different performing arts groups. With an academic concentration in child and adolescent development, Rachel also worked at Bing Nursery School as a student teacher for two and a half years for children ages 2-5 years. Rachel received her BA in Human Biology this past June 2012, and she was also chosen to sing at the graduation ceremony for her major.

Apart from her schoolwork, Rachel has devoted much time to community service and also to the arts. In 2008, she was awarded the President Student Service Award for having done over 5000 hours of community service in her lifetime, much of her volunteer work done at her church up to this time. With a passion for singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments, Rachel sometimes incorporates her talents into her community service by performing or teaching dance classes.

Currently, Rachel is taking review courses for the MCAT and will apply to medical schools in the spring.
