Hey Cab-I feel your pain....these are my ways of dealing with stuck races and a few that I've seen work(as crude as they are), first is the grinding method, if you can get at it I like this one the best, my small highspeed body grinder does a neat job of taking enough off so you can pop that race off with a tap of a chisel, I put it right into the groove from the grinder and it will split right there, I've even seen this done without the grinder but I would hate pounding on a shaft that hard.., but races are brittle and you can break them..

for inside stuff, I put a chuck on that grinder and use a high speed stone to do the same thing, Paul's dremel is the best but I don't have one, but my stone works, its just harder to keep in the same spot :Q

Good luck and go slow, these set-backs need thought and creative methods AND saftey first :S
