Subject: Clunk!

I was driving around at a friend's 320i the other day when I heard this weird clunk. It sounded like somebody kicked me from underneath the car. I stopped to check the car but did not see anything. Then it did it again. This time while I was stopped waiting for a green light. I pulled over again to check the car. Still, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Then it happened again with the engine switched off, while waiting for my bill at a gas station. I am beginning to think the car was haunted. Would a loose exhaust bushing do this? That is the only loose part I could see. Thanks!
