Subject: setting idle on 87 325is

Need help setting the idle (hex screw) on the air box of my 87 325is. It was idling rough and I changed it. Now it stalls at a lot of intersections. I read that you should not mess with it in the Bentley manual if you don't have a CO meter. Well I did. Can anyone give me some advise on how to reset it. I have tried various settings and no luck. It seems to run best when the screw is nearly all the way down but it still stalls.
