Subject: So how do I paint stuff then??

Ive just taken delivery of a nice new front lower panel to replace my old rusty to pieces version. I am planning to paint and fit it myself. I have not really had a lot of experience with painting before and would like to use it as a learning experience, finish quality isn't extremely important down there. So any tips on what type of paint application methods I should use, would be very useful. Also how is the front panel fixed on, is it just bolted?
