I have a rustic cowboy bolo tie hanging from my rearview mirror. I think it's a symbol of the irony in my belief in the cowboy way and my preferance toward a prestigious (from a sporting perspective) German car.
I've also calculated the ratio of friction at the axis of the tie to the weight of the tips of the tie resulting in a semi accurate representation of the lateral gravitational force in the car at any given time, and I've marked the referance points with a red sharpie on my windshield.

(just kidding)
But really, there's got to be a balance of comfort, functionality, and image. I think the rearview is the perfect place for it. - but what is it saying about your image to have an air freshener hanging there?
