Subject: Woo! Idle problem solved!

'87 325is: the idle would waver from 500-1000. All I really did was follow the steps in the Idle faq, available at several sites around the net.. I checked that the ICV was buzzing when I turned on the ignition, tested it for appropriate resistance, checked that it was receiving voltage; checked that the purge valve clicked when I turned on the ignition; but when I was checking the Throttle Position Switch I found it was not closing, therefore the idle control never knew it was time to control the idle...

Using carb cleaner spray to clean out the throttle helped a lot, but the idle was still unstable. Replacing the switch (about $50!) made the idle rock solid. The throttle switch was broken both ways -- so now my ECU knows when I've got the pedal mashed (that's called 'open loop', right?)

All that plus a new Mann air filter? Forget it! The butt-dyno's meter is PEGGED this morning. :)
