Subject: Suspension Vibration and Questions - Long

Guys I need some help with a nasty 50-60mph vibration on my 91 325IC -Auto (I know).

I get an up and down vibration in the front end of the car around 50-60mph. I have tried for the last two years to get rid of it and want to see if anyone here has more ideas. Seems like the vibration is more on the drivers side then passenger but it is not a side to side wheel shake it is more up and down. Sometimes it is really bad and other days it is barely detectable.

I have replaced nearly every suspension component in the car except for transmission rubber spacers and rear differential rubber bushing and suspension springs. Everything else is new. I have done 2 alignments and just recently replaced all 4 tires on the car. I have had the wheels rebalanced 3 times to no avail. My wheels are aftermaket Ronal LS Mesh that are hub centric 15x7.5 with 205 55 15 tires.

Here are some things I have noticed: Replacing the tires with brand new ones helped a little on average but did not fix the problem. After replacing nearly all of the suspension the problem never changed. However after adding a front Sparco strut bar the vibration got much worse. As I said this problem kind of comes and goes for no apparent reason.

My thoughts are - need to replace transmission rubber spacers and rear differential bushing that might be allowing the drive train to move around to much (engine mounts are new). Or I need to replace the springs and rubber spacers in the car. The frame of the car does appear to be straight and seems to align reasonably well.

Brakes are not dragging and the rotors are very flat with good balance (BMW original). Steering rack seems ok and I did replace the swivel joint from rack to steering wheel.

Could a bad wheel bearing cause this? I have not heard any bad noises but that does always give it away. An up - down wheel shake had just a hint of wheel movement in the bearings.

Thoughts....
