Author: Stevie Z and Co.
Subject: The Press Conference

**The Scene – A press conference at the Kansas City Hilton. A small table is set up at the front of a mid-sized meeting room. 3 men dressed in 3 piece Armani suits are seated at the table. The man in the center looks tired. He is wearing a black armband with the number 99. There is only 1 microphone, in front of the man in the middle.

The room is filled with reporters from all of the major sports TV networks – ESPN, TSN, EuroSport, and ABC, NBC, and CBS Sports. There are also reporters from Pro Wrestling magazines. They all look confused, and they are chattering amongst each other.

The man in the center of the table leans forward. He takes a sip of water from a glass, and a deep breath before he begins to speak………

Stevie Z – Ladies and gentlemen of the press, if you will please quiet down, I will explain what is going on. My name is Stevie Z, and I am the manager of the wrestler that you know as The Slinger. I also have financial interests in the TTSWF, and other interests as well. As you all know, there has been widespread speculation that the TTSWF has gone under, a victim of the “war” if you will, between the WWF and the WCW. Well, let me assure you, that the TTSWF is not done. My lawyers are currently meeting with both the TTSWF legal and financial people, so we can all determine exactly what IS going on. I can tell you this much, that the “president” Vengeance, has put himself above the wrestlers and the fans of the TTSWF in order to line his own pockets.

The reporters start to buzz with conversation, and Stevie Z puts his hand up for silence.

Stevie Z – As you all know, the last 2 television shows for the TTSWF have been cancelled. What many of you don’t know is why. Well, the shows at the arenas that were to be taped for the TV appearances were cancelled, in order that Barbara Streisand could put in concert appearances there. For canceling the shows, we understand that Mr. Vengeance received monetary compensation, as well as other extra “perks”. I have contacted my legal people, and it appears that Mr. Vengeance also had his butt covered with the networks, and that they cannot pursue any legal action for the cancellation of the shows. Nor can the talent of the TTSWF address any monetary losses that they have incurred.

A reporter raises his hand. Stevie Z motions to him to speak…

Reporter – Um, what exactly were his “perks” that he received?

Stevie Z - I understand that he received numerous front-row tickets for several concerts on the tour, and a “private audience” with Ms. Striesand.

A chuckle rises from the reporters.

Stevie Z – But on to more important matters. I have been in contact with several of the wrestlers, and we are in agreement on a few things. First of all, the show must go on. The talent of the TTSWF is itching to perform for their fans, their fans are eager to see them wrestle, and of course, these people have families to support, and mouths to feed, and Ferrari payments to make.

The reporters again begin to chuckle.

Stevie Z – It is because of those reasons that we have decided to hold a Pay Per View event unsanctioned by the TTSWF.

The reporters again begin to buzz loudly, expressing their disbelief. Several reporters raise their hands to ask questions…

Reporter for ESPN – How will the arrangements be made?

Stevie Z – I am taking advantage of the people that I already have in place, and I am making the required Pay Per View and arena arrangements.

Reporter for ABC Sports – What about money? How will you finance the event? How will the wrestlers be paid? How much are they going to make?

Stevie Z – The initial funding for the event will be coming from Jack Leer, of Leer Publishing.

Again the reporters buzz.

Stevie Z – The talent will then be paid based on revenues from the event itself, merchandising from the event, and from the Pay Per View revenues.

Reporter – …………….and I suppose that you and Leer will be taking the largest share.

Stevie Z – Actually, Mr. Leer will be paid his initial monies, plus a very modest profit for putting the money on the line, and I assure you that his profit on this is very small. Mr. Leer is doing this for the fans. As far as the wrestlers profits, every single one of the athletes will be paid the exact same percentage.

Reporter for TSN – When is this planned to take place, eh? We want to make sure that we don’t have to pre-empt anything really exciting like golf or curling….. **NOTE-OOC joke for any Canadians out there – sorry, couldn’t resist**

Stevie Z – Don’t worry about it sir, you won’t be carrying it. It will be Pay Per View ONLY.

Reporter for CBS - But why are you shutting the networks out?

Stevie Z – This is nothing against the networks. This is a one-time tourney only, and we want to give the fans something special, as well as make some money for the people involved. We are having some talks about the possibility of another league if the TTSWF doesn’t recover from its troubles. If that occurs, then the networks can be assured that they will be allowed to bid on carrying our show.

Reporter for Pro Wrestling Magazine – Who will be participating in this event?

Stevie Z – The roster isn’t quite finalized yet, however we do have some matches booked, thanks to the excellent workings of Mr. Chuck T. The following matches have been set for the event (Stevie Z picks is handed a list by the man on his right. He begins to read from it :

Stevie Z - El Toreador vs. The Slinger

D-Son vs. "Golden Boy" Ric Anderson

Cupid vs. "TSFTL" Lance Williams

The Lethal Weapons vs. Cold Steel

MAIN EVENT:

Hardcore Title Fight

"The Lumberjack" Steve Black vs. Python

Reporter – What about Jack Leer ?

Stevie Z – Well, with all of the financial arrangements that had to be made, Mr. Leer has
been very busy, however his match will be announced shortly.

Reporter for EuroSport – Does this little mutiny mean that the TTSWF is done for?

Stevie Z – First of all fella, I really don’t think you want to use the word “mutiny” do you? I suggest that you think about that really hard. These guys just want to feed their families. I suppose you wouldn’t do whatever you had to in order to keep a roof over your family’s head and food in their mouths? Secondly, no, I don’t think that the TTSWF is done for. Jack, The Slinger, myself and several others are prepared to do whatever we have to do to keep things alive. Alternate plans must be made, however, to protect our interests……

Reporter for SportsNet – Who will be doing the officiating?

Stevie Z – Well, we decided to enlist an outside source. We didn’t want to go to any rival wrestling companies, and we also didn’t want the standard TTSWF officials involved. In the best interest of fair play, we decided to go with the accounting firm of Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe, the same company that is responsible for the vote tallying of the Grammy Awards.

Again the reporters buzz…..an accounting firm? This ought to be very interesting.

Reporter for NBC Sports – Do you really expect to be able to pull this off? I mean your promotions company is used to promoting auto racing events. Will you be able to handle a wrestling show?

Stevie Z – Listen here, my good man, I have a very dedicated team of people working for me, and I have a huge pool of talent in the form of wrestlers who want to wrestle. If we all work our asses off, this thing WILL go over very well. There will be problems, sure, but we all want the same thing in the end – quality sports entertainment.

Several more reporters raise their hands, but Stevie Z waves them off.

Stevie Z – You must excuse me ladies and gentlemen, but I have a plane to catch, unfortunately I must leave immediately to attend a memorial service, however further press releases will be issued, don’t worry about that….

Stevie Z rises and begins to leave, followed by the two other men at the table. Reporters are shouting questions but he doesn’t answer any, and just repeats that all of the details will be in the subsequent press releases.

**Later, as Stevie Z is sitting on his private plane speeding towards Vancouver, he wonders to himself if he and Jack Leer haven’t opened some sort of Pandora’s Box…..
