Growing up, I was both intrigued and embarrassed by enemas.

It was interesting, and strangely fun, to see, hear, or even hear about other kids being given enemas.

It wasn't fun when I was the one being given the enemas though. It was embarrassing being naked from the waist down, and having mom part my bottom cheeks and slip an enema nozzle into my exposed anus. Having her inject a quart or more of warm soapy water into my bowels wasn't comfortable either.

My mom loved to talk about enemas. She would discuss the subject with my grandmothers, aunts, friends, and neighbors. I was also embarrassed when I walked in on such conversations. It was most embarrassing when mom would tell them about an enema she'd given me or was planning to give me!
