The earliest "fountain syringes" that I've been able to track, came about in the 19th Century. There are references to "Fountain Pens" going way back further in history. I suspect that some entrepreneur, working on a way to deliver an injection (enema, clyster, Klister) developed a system that replaced the animal bladder/bone referred to historically.

As rubber was found able to be molded, the various options began to appear in the marketplace. Rectal syringe, douche syringe, enema syringe, fountain syringe, combination syringe, folding syringe, and travel syringe became available in the drug/apothecary stores. The names described some more specific uses as displays often showed the types.
Obviously, some of them were targeted to the female gender for more hygienic utilization.

LisaK and Kathy, it has been interesting to follow you gals inasmuch as I have a long history of being subjected over my lifetime. Mom, grandma, and our family doctors prescribed enemas on a frequent basis. I still appreciate this "old fashioned" treatment and the equipment. I do post elsewhere as sse4fun and Mo. I do apologize if my activity here isn't OK.
