Subject: Something that really bugs me

I know that pageants attract a lot of gay men and I have absolutely no issue with being gay. I support gay marriage, I support civil rights, I support equality. I am planning a gay wedding for the summer. This is not a rant about being gay. I myself am gay.

It is a rant, however, against these prissy men who insist on drawing attention to themselves through these young ladies’ efforts. My God, I could not see the crowning because some flamboyant queen was swooning when the winner was called. Let the winner command attention! You were a paid employee that may have helped her. Good for you. Now sit down and stop the act so that the winner is the center of attention! We will hear for the next ten years how this person “made” the winner. I also HATE hearing the term “pageant daughter.” When I speak to girls that a certain someone refers to as Pageant daughters, they roll their eyes and smile. I am not saying they don’t appreciate his work and I think he is good at what he does. Again, though, he is a paid employee. His pageant daughters are pageant daughters because they handed him a check for the services he performed. The girls are too polite not to call him out for trying to step into their spotlight.

As for last night’s pageant, it was very long, as usual, but I appreciated every girl in top 15. They could easily have called a top 25 and had 25 excellent representatives. There will, I am sure, be complaints about fairness, but I thought the pageant and the winners continued the tradition of excellence.
