Hey Little Brother Wyatt,

We read with interest about your mentioning about your
county weekly newspaper publishing the articles of
"Looking Back" section, which some the county newspapers
used to publish in older issues happenings: 10, 20, 25,
30, 40, 50, 75 and 100 years ago here for readers to read
about.

They published a variety of subjects of news happenings.
They also changed in the l960s we have seen county newspapers publish to current issues different articles
of subjects, county and local history to the current
20-teens.

There was during World War II here articles published
wanting old scrap metal for scrap metal drives to
contribute to the WAR EFFORTS; and different decades
since then re-published these same article.

Nothing is mentioned steam tractors metal/iron being
collected but, metal gasoline tractors not good for
operational use anymore was being asked to be contributed
to scrap metal drives.

Same for old 1930s and l940s farm equipment became "lost"
when contrbuted to scrap metal drives.

A piece of history was "lost" mentioned in one
article about World War II scrap metal drive of
WANTING OLD SCRAP METAL FOP THE WAR EFFORT.

The article didn't mention the year or battle(s)
used in but, an original Civil War cannon that
was given to our county used during the Civil War
and was from a state regiment several hundred of
Civil War soldiers who volunteered to serve representing
our county in the Civil War was given to one of the scrap metal drives our County held during World War II.

THIS WAS WRONG TO DO, GIVING THAT CANNON AWAY TO A SCRAP
METAL DRIVE. Yes, it helped the World War II war effort,
but think of the Civil War veterans from our county who
used and operated that cannon in battles and some gave
their lives protecting it from getting captured!

There is a photo of that cannon in a newspaper history
article showing it sitting on the county courthose lawn
near the front door main entrance, with an existing flag
pole that still stands and is being used today.
Wyatt, you think during World War II one of your family
steam tractors got scraped for the War Effort of WW II?

THAT IS AWFUL! SAD! IT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED!

Would it have been wise for county officials in your area to spare that steam tractor so it could be used for farming
during the war, and even any old farm equipment, too?
