Subject: Annual Gas & Steam Engine Show Was Awesome

Saturday & Sunday, July 9-10, 2016 the Annual Gas & Steam Engine
Show was held here for our area. The weather was HOT & HUMID
as usual, and being around one hundred-plus old antique gas and
steam engines makes the air and atomposhere more hot, too!!

All of us had a blast with the rest of the members of our Antique
Gas & Steam Engine Club to continue to bring the past alive and
education those attending about the days how steam engines and
oil pulls and gas tractors were used to help make life easier on
the farms when it came to cutting wood to use for fuel, cutting
wooden shingles to roof a house or barn, to harvest crops of corn,
threshing wheat, and even pumping water for use.

(Mark): My grandpa took to the show his 1940 Co-Op gas tractor,
and he and I took turns driving it around with my grandma as
grandpa's passenger or if I was driving my girlfriend Holly rode
with me.
(Drew, Jake, Sean, Cody and Hunter): there was plenty of gas
tractors for us to borrow and drive around or use in demonstrations,
and we had our girlfriends ride along wit us.

Some of the steam engine tractors on hand were: Russel,
Case, Rumley, Nicholas & Shepard, and Advance steam
engines.

There were Rumley oil pulls; John Deere gas tractors,
Farmall tractors, Case, International Harvestor, Avery,
Allis-Chalmers and others.

A very old turn-of-the century (1900) era Steam Roller
used on blacktop roads was operating around the
grounds.

Different steam engines tractors took turns operating
a sawmall to cut-up lumber, cut/make shingles and
threash wheat.

(Mark): Again this I was able to drive around one of
the steam engines, a 16 hph. Adance, with my girlfriend
Holly riding with me. We had fun being in the tractor
parade each day.

Each day to start with a All-you-can-eat pancake breakfast
was served. (Drew): And as usual Mark made a little pig of
himself! There was homemade sausage, biscuits & butter,
toast, different kinds of fruits and more.

Each of our dad's had fun with our mom riding at their sides
driving borrowed tractors around or helping with demonstrations.

A highlight each is the cooking of sweet corn cook/steamed
in a steel drum with a steam engine used to cook the corn
providing steam from it through a connecting hose to the
cooker.

(Mark, Drew, Jake, Sean, Cody & Hunter): We had fun with
others playing a game of baseball using steam engines.
Baseball players would play regular/normal positions and
the person batting would hit the ball and instead of running to
bases on foot they would jump onto a steam engine and drive
around the bases to advance bases as more batters batted to
drive runs/players in, etc. A person and steam engine could
be thrown out on bases or at home play.

We are proud to report us YOUNGSTERS won the baseball
game beating the OLD-TIMERS by a score of 8-4.

All in all it was a great, fun weekend, despite it being hot
and humid! At night we sat around the campfire, roasted
hotdogs, cooked S'mores and popped pop corn!

We can hardly wait until 2017 to come and we do it all
over again!
