Subject: Retirement Party

As some of you may recall, earlier we posted that our high school football coach retired after 40 years of coaching.

What started out as a simple retirement celebration, kept growing and growing with several date changes in response to the number of people who wanted to attend. Finally the party was held three weeks ago. The party was held at ballroom in a local hotel, with food served buffet style.

There was a huge crowd of people in attendance, including some who played for him years ago. On the wall, there we enlarged pictures of his state championship teams.

People had a great time visiting, eating and remembering their playing days. Coach gave a presentation where he introduced his wife, children and grandchildren. He gave a short speech recounting his coaching days and how happy he was being apart of our high school days.

He spent a lot of time visiting with his old players and taking pictures with them. We took a picture with Coach, Zack, Brady, Brooks and me. I also was in a picture with Coach, Justin, Nate, Tate, Chad and some of my old team mates. I know Brooks was in a picture with him, Trent, Damon and Jonah.

It was a great time, and worth the wait. For a man who could appear be stern, demanding, and scary at times, turned out to be a softy. At times I think he had tears in his eyes.

I know he enjoyed his party and there are a lot of us who are glad we played for him.
