[> Subject: I haven't heard one bit about that, but really, why wouldn't you want a local committee behind you? Support, perhaps a wardrobe budget if you're lucky... ultimately, having a local title should make competing for state easier than not.

Above poster is right, the committee behind you can help you prepare, you'll have sponsors, and it's good practice for state. Local in the long run would end up being cheaper because your directors would most likely pay your way to state if this were to occur.
