• Louis Virtel Fires Back at House Republicans for Using His Epic Jeopardy! Snap -- by Sean Mandell, 16:54:38 01/12/16 Tue [2]
  On Tuesday, House Republicans used a GIF of verbal voguer and Hitfix writer Louis Virtel’s now-famous appearance on Jeopardy! to promote their Snapchat coverage (yes, you read that correctly) of the State of the Union.
  
  The GIF in question was of a memorable snap Virtel did after winning a Double Jeopardy! challenge when he appeared on the show back in May. House Republicans took that image and imposed “SNAP OF THE UNION” (also the name of their Snapchat coverage) over Virtel’s triumphant performance.
  
  Virtel, however, was none too pleased with his image and iconography being co-opted by the GOP.
  
  Virtel tweeted, “Hey, GOP! Your candidates are horrifying garbage who’ve done nothing for LGBT rights. Don’t use my image. I think every day about closeted gay kids who want to kill themselves because their parents are ignorant, fearful Republicans. The reason people liked my snap was because it defied regressive, homophobic, scary-ass losers like you.”
  
  Speaking with Slate about Republicans using his image to promote their agenda, Virtel said,
  
  As a gay guy who is protective and militantly proud of his gayness, it’s both hilarious and borderline traumatizing to see the GOP mistake my energy for something in line with their ideals. Like many longtime out-and-proud gay guys from the Midwest, I’ve known plenty of closeted folks who are terrified of coming out. They all have one thing in common: Their parents are staunch Republicans. The GOP as it stands is a regressive and terrifying threat to LGBT Americans, and if the GOP can’t see that a gay guy on Jeopardy! wouldn’t want to be associated with them, it’s only further proof of their brutal ignorance.

  BURNS, OREGON — Grandfather of four Robert Saunders says he was just out to check on some young burrowing owls at the crack of dawn this morning when he was confronted by a “red-faced pudgy man with a big gun”.
  
  And things got physical when Saunders refused the barked orders to halt and identify himself.
  
  “Well heck, one second he was warming his hands by this kind of puny little fire and the next second he was running at me and shouting to get down on the ground,” Saunders told reporters gathered near the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
  
  “Made me mad really. It’s public property and here this guy is acting all big and tough and pushy.”
  
  “I don’t swear much at all but I told him to screw right off and that made him really angry. He started yelling right into my face — his breath was…well, pee you…it smelled like beer and maybe salami sausages or something.”
  
  “So I said there was no darn way I was getting down on the ground and he poked me in the shoulder — so, yeah, I did a leg take-down. Didn’t know I even remembered that old move. Did it without even thinking about it. Haha.”
  
  “He landed pretty hard on his back and I could tell he was winded because he started moaning and trying to suck air into his lungs. And that was that.”
  
  “I hope I didn’t hurt the man…well, his pride maybe,” said Saunders from his small bungalow in the nearby town of Burns, population 2,700.
  
  “When I left to go check on the owls, he was still curled up in a ball on the ground.”
  
  
  An FBI spokesperson at the entrance to the refuge told reporters that this is the first reported instance of any conflict between the occupying militant group and locals but warned that things could escalate quickly as other armed militants continue to arrive by the truckload.
  
  “We’re hoping this is an isolated incident and we’re asking the elderly not to knock any more militants on their ass,” said the grinning FBI agent.

  WASHINGTON — A day after President Obama held a nationally televised town hall about guns in America, a new poll shows that a majority of Republicans would rather actually be shot by a firearm than agree with him.
  
  In an indication of the challenges facing the President in persuading Republicans, those surveyed named a wide variety of specific guns that they would choose to be personally shot by rather than seeing eye to eye with Obama.
  
  When asked to state their preference, forty-three per cent stated “handgun,” twenty-seven per cent replied “shotgun,” twenty-one per cent responded “assault rifle,” while only two per cent named “agreeing with Obama.”
  
  The poll results are reminiscent of a poll taken last month about climate change, in which a majority of Republicans said they would rather see their habitat destroyed by rising sea levels than agree with President Obama.

  PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) — A gunman claiming to have pledged allegiance to Islamic State militants shot and seriously wounded a Philadelphia police officer in an ambush on his patrol car, the city’s police commissioner said on Friday.
  
  Edward Archer of Philadelphia approached Officer Jesse Hartnett, 33, shortly before midnight and fired 11 rounds, three of which hit the officer in his arm, authorities said. Police released still images from surveillance video that showed the gunman dressed in a long white robe walking toward the car and firing, eventually getting close enough to shoot directly through the window.
  
  Hartnett chased Archer, who was arrested by responding officers and later confessed to the attack, saying he had carried it out “in the name of Islam,” police officials told reporters.
  
  “He has confessed to committing this cowardly act in the name of Islam,” Ross told a press conference, adding that the 30-year-old assailant also referenced Islamic State militants.
  
  Philadelphia Police Captain James Clark added, “He said he pledges his allegiance to Islamic State, he follows Allah and that was the reason he was called on to do this.”
  
  Philadelphia police officer Jesse Hartnett was shot multiple times on Thursday evening by a man who later told police he acted “in the name of Islam” and that “the police defend laws that are contrary to the teaching of the Koran,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross, Jr., said at a Friday press conference.
  
  At the press conference, Ross explained the attack and what he said was the attacker’s professed motive.
  
  “The suspect in question is a 30-year-old male from Yeadon, he has a Philadelphia address as well, I believe,” said Ross. “He has confessed to committing this cowardly act in the name of Islam. According to him, he believes that the police defend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Koran.”
  
  Ross also displayed some photographs of the actual attack.
  
  “You can see the male in question, moving toward Police Officer Hartnett already firing. Second shot: He is literally inside that car. He’s got his arm extended, firing at Officer Hartnett,” said Ross.

  This week, Obama shed crocodile tears while announcing his latest executive orders to hinder our second amendment rights.

  Anyone in the business of selling guns must have a license and do background checks or be subject to prosecution.
  The federal government will hire more federal officials to do background checks, including 200 more Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents to enforce existing laws.
  He claims he will do more to help those with mental illness. A lot of work will focus on people looking to commit suicide. His is looking to invest $500 million.
  His administration will focus on working with the gun industry on new technology to make guns safer and create “smart guns”.
  This all may sound great, but none of the major shootings in recent years would have been prevented by these new gun laws and this administration knows it. Not to mention that gun violence in the US is actually on the decline, and is at its lowest since the 1960s.
  Idaho saw this coming and they were ready. Last year, Idaho passed a law declaring that the state does not have to abide by fed­er­al gun laws going forward. The law, which criminalizes the enforcement of Federal gun laws, passed unanimously in both the House and the Senate.
  Under the new law, state law-enforcement officials could also be fined up to $1,000 and charged with a mis­de­mean­or for en­for­cing fed­er­al gun laws.
