The British won't be busting down the door any minute. But there are some others who might: Robbers, murderers, rapists, vandalizers, and so on and so forth. Especially when you get to big cities in "run-down" areas.

And the thing is, police, for all the good they do, cannot get to your home that fast, assuming you have time to call 911 or whatever. I don't think that a rapist is going to wait outside the room while a woman calls 911. The best defense in this case is a firearm.
