sadness today
it's nice here
sitting writing in the cool afternoon
with the sun shining through my hair
leaving its burning tingle on my legs and back
my shadow so familiar, my body so distant
i am not myself again today
dressed up with perfect make-up and clothes
i tried not to but the "pretty" feeling was magnetic
i gained the beauty but lost the cool
i've been so strong
as i stare at the silouhette on the pavement
i see beauty no reflection can give
nothing defines the shadow except who i really am
all color and detail is lost but it's still me
me, bent over my notebook, pen in hand, short hair blowing
in the wind
it's all so simple
an uncomplicated picture
beauty without the color, without the detail
today i will have peace
today i will own content
