She peered up at the Weyrleader. After this hatching was over would she be amongst his chosen group? The Dragonriders of Pern. She new her life would never be the same. She wouldn't be able to wander from place to place anymore, oh the good times there were. But then, there were hardships too. Again her eyes turned to the others that Impressed. Sure, there were things to loose by coming here and becoming a rider. But . . . oh, what it was a thing to gain!

From word of mouth she'd hear of the undying devotion a dragon had for its rider, it went both ways. What would it feel like to have a connection to anothe that deep? Something beyond simple love between humans. Was such a deep devotion possible? That if one were to die that the other would soon follow? Apparently it was. She dwelled on this thought. What would it be like? Then . . . furthur on down her thoughts she came to the conclusion. Yes, what a wonderful, precious thing. This was what she wanted. She was here not just to stand on the sands and say that she tried. Not just to brag when she Impressed, but she was here, right now because she WANTED that. She wanted the ability to turn and speak to someone. She had never connected deeply with any one person. Could this be her chance? Yes, she needed this. This was her chance to find that connection. That peace, that reliability. Something firm and definate.

Over but a short time a complete metamorphasis in attitude had occured over the girl who stood upon the hot sands. Even if it wasn't apparent upon her outward appearance she knew that then and there, as she waited upon the sands of the Igen hatching ground, that whether she Impressed or not her life would never be the same again.
