Subject: Hardworking and Ambitious (Number Two!)

A handsome blue. A very fine son for Grenith, and a triumph over those who had speculated that the Hatchlings would not survive. But there were still eight more to go, and the people on the Sands and in the stands were still aching with desperation for another egg to hatch.

As if a plea was heard, another egg began to rock. Unlike the last one, this would take a little more time, and unlike the last one, there could be no doubt of the colour of this hatchling. The shell was smooth and round, and a deep, un-fluctuating shade of green. Oh no. They knew what this one would be. And what would a green clutch be without a green egg?

The hatchling freed herself with meticulous precision, the shell of her egg breaking neatly into four parts to reveal her standing there and looking about her. She was long in the body, a little thin at parts, and the look of a dragon who will grow into a thin, stern female. There was iron in her frame.

Her hide was dark green, the green of a pine tree, and it was plain she had all of the tree’s spikiness, and all the ambition of a bronze or queen dragon.

Looking around with unusually firm eyes for a hatchling, the green sighted on her chosen human, and held up her head imperiously to look at her.

{Vivian! Stand up straight, girl, and get those fire-lizards in order! We have to set an example to the Weyr, you and I. I’m going to be great, and you have to help me! I am Idaliath, and you will be my rider!}
