Zerach feels a constriction in his chest with each hatching. He should have known. Convieniently forgetting that there are five eggs left, five chances, he immediately begins worrying. He shouldn't have come, he shouldn't have.

No, he can't think like that. He has to keep his thoughts strong, and will that one of the dragons will choose him. It can happen, no, it WILL happen. Being too shy to so much as look at any of the others, Zerach blinks and looks worriedly at each one still left. But no, he'd keep his mind and heart strong. There was still a chance. Open, he'd leave himself open to the remaining eggs. Someone would pick him. It would be so sad if Emma came back and he was empty handed, and empty hearted. Rejection was just not something he could think about. A wan smile stretches across his desperately hopeful face as each pair stumbles with dazed happiness out into the world beyond the parched grounds. His day would come, if he could just wait awhile...
