A golden shape held Davan's fixed attention as he tied the last of the wherry meat into a large square of hide. It looked egg-heavy, and also looked to be on its way to the Hatching Ground. This, then, was Shrineth, the Weyr Queen, lifemate of Weyrwoman Wessae. That meant that the call would soon come out for Candidates to assemble at the Hatching Grounds.

No, wait- that was wrong. How did that one old Harper put it?
It started out with the description of the mating flight, but no, that wasn't it. It was in the second verse, then.
Five heated weeks, and in a month, who seeks?
He couldn't remember the rest of the song, but five heated weeks seemed like a long time. Then again, he had plenty of it to waste. Weyrwoman knew that he wasn't going to be invited to the next Gather at Bitra.

Where did I hide my robe?
Not long after realizing that he was, infact, free of Bitra and his father, Davan had taken the initiative to sew himself a white Candidate's robe. It was badly sewn in places, but the cloth was of the fine quality he had always loved.

There it was, wedged between two rocks, and weighed down with an old wherry thigh bone. He shook it out, and held it up against himself. It would be a bit of a tight fit, but good enough. He shucked his tunic, and drew the white robe steadily on over his shirt and breeches. No matter if it wasn't tradition; Davan didn't like feeling half naked. He picked up his newly redesigned belt, and knotted the raw leather ends. He slid his worn out knife into it's old sheath that he had affixed to the side of the belt, and used the thick twine he had found to fix his still soft eggs to his belt.

Five heated weeks- if that's true, then my beauies still have three of them to go! Oh well. This will be extremely fun.

Sandals were traditional, but then again, the shift alone was traditional too. Well, it would be like trying to pull a straight back at Bitra before he wore sandals with this ridiculous get-up! He did nothing to his boots.

Davan took up his skybroom branch that had been serving as his walking stick, and began walking towards the Hatching Ground.


Half Hour Later

Davan drew along side the corner of the wall that led to the Hatching Ground. Peering through the door, he saw the golden queen, and several other candidates. He dropped his walking stick, which he didn't need anyways, and- after a brief struggle with himself- removed his knife from his sheath.
Former Lord's heir or not, he had to adhere to at least some of the tradidtions, and this one was sensible. Knives were very dangerous tools.



((Okay, like I said on the OOC Board, Browns and Bronze only. Though, actually, I wouldn't mind if he got a green, I know that Vivian will become difficult to play. So, any color exept for gold(to self: DUH!!!), and blue, because Chrystalinne wants that all to herself. See what little brats I have to deal with? They're even worse than Heidi and Jetski and Willow combined!!! Sorry, horses at my barn.))
