Author: Daraco, Eagle
Subject: No one knows what it's like...

To be the bad man…

The sands beneath his feet caused no discomfort whatsoever as the boy, his true self hidden under a veil of arrogent sureness that he couldn’t lift. Everyone had shunned the boy, which had led him to be more like his father, a Lord Holder. So, as the only son of a cruel Lord Holder such as his father, why shouldn’t he be arrogent?

Because it’s not who I am… Daraco thought to himself, his mental voice like a whisper. His harder mental voice, the one that had adapted to life acting like his father, sharply reprimended him. So? Who cares? They certainly don’t! The harshness of the voice caused Daraco to stop in his tracks. No one’s ever cared about you. Your father never did. He thought you were a disgrace. You never could make him proud. And then the people of your Hold hate you. You’re of a bloodline of hatred.

Daraco sighed as he realized that he was telling himself the truth. Sure, the real him only wanted a friend, but the world tossed all his hopes and dreams away. He couldn’t hope for a real friend, so he had to harden himself, make himself superior, to the point where he didn’t need friends. However, he didn’t seem to be doing a very good job of it; a holder boy, no matter how important, was paled in comparison to the DragonRiders.

He was just a worthless 18-turn-old kid, no matter how he looked at it. The bronze flit on his shoulder chipred, trying to tell him he was not worthless, but it mattered little. They’d taken his cloak away, so he could not longer hide away. He had to be the image he’d built up over the years.

His white-blonde strait hair swept not too far passed his ears. His pale skin stuck out against the gold of the stands much more than some of the tanner candidates, and his blue-gray eyes set him apart. The loose white candidate attire was exactly the worst thing he could imagine wearing, as he loved nothing more than to hide in the shadows with the black cloak he’d been using for as long as he’d been away from his Hold. The white was disgustingly bright, just about as pale as his skin. He hated it so much. And, they’d denied him some kind of pocket knife. Normally, he aways had his silver-handled pocket knife, specially crafted from the smith’s hall, with a picture of a snake. Though, in this place, ‘no one was allowed a weapon’.

To be the sad man…

Daraco sighed, and absent-mindedly stroked the bronze head a bit. If it wasn’t for his beloved ‘lizard, he probably would’ve gone crazy. However, as intelligent as Eagle was, he was no comparison to the real friend Daraco had dreamed of having for as long as he remembered. One that he knew he’d never find.

Funny thing, really. The only reason he was here instead of under his cloak in the shadows was because he’d met a goldrider named Rinali at the ocean. She’d told him something about being a rider, and how he’d be D’raco. So, naturally, he listened to his superior. It was almost like listening to his father—when his father told you to do something, you did it. However, Rinali had been much nicer about telling him to be here.

Well, that was a lie. She wasn't the only reason. Another thing on his mind... was Atiyana, another candidate. She'd gone as far as to have a full conversation with him, and it was mainly about dragons and this Impression. Really, that conversation had more of an effect than Rinali's, truth be told.

He really didn’t see what dragon in its right mind would choose him. He was a sharding arrogent kid on his outside stature, and on the inside was a weak, lost little boy. He couldn’t find a lifemate here. So, why had Rinali suggested so strongly that he’d impress?

However, he wouldn’t back out of this. He wasn’t really afraid. Nothing scared him anymore.

Well… except his father.

But no, not a little hatching like this. He could stand firm, and wait until the magnificiant hatching was over, and then leave the sands. Empty-handed was what he expected, so he couldn’t be dissapointed.

He walked confidently up to the towering golden form of the sovereign mother, and looked into her eyes. Instantly he was troubled; she was regal, and his superior. He’d never before had good luck when watched over by his father, and somehow it felt like the cold eyes were upon him. He bowed very low, and whispered both mentally and phisically to the golden queen.

”My name is Daraco. I’m not sure I belong here, but I am here to try and Impress. I hope you can forgive what feels like my tresspassing, to at least see the eggs if they do not choose me.”

He straigtened up, and walked over to the eggs, his blue eyes sweeping the scene.

It was beautiful…

The eggs all seemed to rock to a certain rhythm, one unmatched by anything the best harper could make. They all swayed, and they all glowed, showing that they lived for this moment, and that this was the moment that a chosen few candidates lived for. It sent shivers up Daraco’s spine as he wandered a bit closer, not quite joining the crowd of kids in white.

His eyes flicked toward the gold egg. He mentally sighed. It was beautiful, though he didn’t wish too much to admit it. He could see why it was the mother’s prized egg. It was by far the largest, and the shell seemed to demand every ray of sun to fall upon it, making it glow with a radience beyond imagination.

However, he couldn’t see why most girls seemed to whoa over it. It wasn’t that important. These girls would be lucky enough to Impress a green. Why did they seem to think it was the only thing worth watching?

However many times he told himself to stop, he couldn’t tear his gaze from the eggs. Finally, he resorted to coming closer, and laying a soft hand on one of the larger eggs. He smirked lightly; it was a lot harder than he’d expected. Aparently they were to hatch soon.

However, after the touch, he felt as though he really didn’t belong. He backed away slightly, and looked to the sky, wondering again why he was there…

Behind blue eyes…

((Could he not have a green? I'd love a bronze, brown and blues are acceptable, but no greenies for him, please.))
