Halzay watched with a smile as the friends got into their mock-arguement. She looked down to hide her amusement--it seemed weird for her to find something to smile about in a moment like this.

She looked up at S'peer as he talked with his little friend. Who was she kidding, with all her opinions up 'til now? When she was a weyrling, she had no chance with him. When the idea of a family intrigued her, he hadn't wanted it. And then, when he'd been the skeleton in her closet and the bump in the night, he was just another man, laughing with his friends.

Would she ever get anything right?

Halzay gave a soft sigh, and pondered a moment why she'd asked permission, but tossed it aside in her mind as being polite or something. There probably wasn't adeeper meaning than that... was there?
