In reply to: Tr'ln(Latroth) and True(Zairith) 's message, "Hey, Talla! Reposting up here... merg..." on 14:47:00 11/11/05 Fri

Biting down hard on her lower lip, Talla forces herself to listen all the way through Tr'ln's little speech. She doesn't have many friends here, and she'd liked him; he'd seemede so nice before this, and maybe he'll have a reason she can work around into a justification for his behavior. Besides, the last thing Talla wants to do to her own reputation is make a scene, and the newly-Impressed, True among them, don't really deserve to have their party interrupted by a junior weyrwoman screeching at a dragonrider. Alas, the tale he tells seems to be the usual male stupidity, no irate fathers or dismissals from Tsuga herself in the story, and Talla doesn't really give a whit for what kind of guilt the brownrider might have endured. Guilt is self-inflicted; Tsuga would have suffered from circumstances outside her control, and the only fault she can see the other goldrider having in this whole affair is sleeping with a man before they were wedded.

If she was feeling a little less offended on the behalf of Tr'ln's abandoned girlfriend, Talla might have taken into account his more recent behavior, and perhaps even acknowledged that he has changed. But she isn't, and she doesn't. "I don't know what Tsuga will care to do about you, or not do," she says crisply when he's finished, in a stiff tone of voice that's a far cry from the warm, friendly tones of before. "I, personally, will not abuse my authority to make trouble for someone who isn't my personal problem, and I can't believe you'd suggest that." Admittedly, she's far more fond of the authority that comes with her rank than the duties, but reality has little bearing on her basic emotional reaction to the insinuation, which is pure indignation. And, truthfully enough, that isn't the sort of thing she'd lean on her authority for; Talla's never outright abused her rank, just sometimes skimped on the responsibilities while still indulging in the privileges. "And I'm not the person you should be looking at for forgiveness. I'm not saying I won't give it to you-" though in Tsuga's position, she silently adds, she wouldn't, and some of that comes through in her tone "-but that I can't. That's something you should ask Tsuga. But... tolerance...." Her voice falters for a moment, and she drops her hands, squeezing her legs just above the knee purely because she needs to do something with the tension running through her body, and she's not quite angry enough to try squeezing Tr'ln's neck. Stanza mantles and hisses at Tr'ln, and Verse cheeps softly and nuzzles Talla's neck; even Chapter stirs a bit, and gives Tr'ln a slit-eyed look, though whether the annoyance in the young brown's expression is Talla's anger or Chapter's own expression of distaste at being woken by his Impressed's noisy thoughts is unclear.

He was so nice, and polite... he didn't seem like the sort of person who'd abandon a girl bearing his son! If someone Talla only knew by name had confessed this to her, she wouldn't have been half as upset, she'd just have decided not to associate closely with them anymore (and, honestly, would have been a bit confused as to why this near-stranger had felt compelled to tell her something so personal). But she'd thought she'd found a friend, a nice man she could talk to and spend time with, and it turns out that he's an irresponsible coward instead. It feels a bit like she's been lied to. "Tolerance... I don't know, Tr'ln!" she says, and there's frustration and anger and a bit of distress in her voice. "It didn't even occur to you to marry her? You didn't feel happy at all about having a son, or even a daughter? Did you even think about what abandoning her would do to her and the child, or how the Hold might treat her once you left?" Making an effort not to shout, because poor True didn't need to be involved in this in the first place and certainly didn't need the adverse attention if people started getting curious about what had made a goldrider so angry, Talla looked up at Tr'ln, jaw clenched and tight and eyes wide with something akin to disbelief. "I can't believe-"
