Author: S'peer -- Scarth, Rinali -- Lilith
Subject: We won't succeed on Broadway,
In reply to: Maria(Myth) (Smith) NPC drudge 's message, "I DON'T LIKE BEING CALLED 'RIA'!!!" on 23:12:46 06/27/05 Mon

Smith, I suggest that next time you do not say the name of your rider. His misdeeds are well-known here, through fault of gossip. And the dragons that you sat are mad at you are simply confused – they and their riders are appalled by the behaviour of your rider, and forget that a dragon can do nothing to prevent a rider’s actions. They may believe that you could have stopped him, and so they may be hostile. At Myth’s rebellious mumble the queen gave him the mental equivalent of a quelling stare. S’peer, go and find Rinali.

S’peer looked horrified, and Scarth had to jump in. Lilith, please – don’t transfer us! Please! We can’t leave…

Settle this with Rinali. A swift mindcall drew her rider into the Lower caverns with purposeful strides. Taking a sweeping glance of the whole situation, the older woman sighed. “Thank you, Lilith. I’ll try and do things one at a time. S’peer, may I have a private word?”

The bluerider followed her a few paces away from the group, not quite out of earshot. “What did you want, queenrider?”

It was her normal title nowadays – not many people called her Weyrwoman. “I wanted to talk to you on a rather serious matter. I have been for a while now.” He nodded acknowledgement of her words. “It’s K’mir.”

Instantly he looked wary, glancing nervously back at the slumbering greenrider. “What about him?”

“S’peer, I want you to understand that I have to cover all areas of discomfort. And your record is not filling me with happy thoughts. I need to know – honestly, please – if you will be able to restrain yourself.” When he opened his mouth to protest, she held up a hand. “S’peer, understand my concern. Your history concerning flight-rapists is not good.”

S’peer paled, looking away from her. He couldn’t meet Rinali’s gaze. “I know you want to transfer me, queenrider. But all I can say is – I won’t do anything. I’ll stay out of his way, I’ll make sure that if I have to see him, someone else is always around. I’m trying to do better here – I’ve just discovered I’ve got a daughter, for Faranth’s sake – I’m not going to mess it up.”

“Can you promise that there won’t be another M’red incident?”

“I can.” He met her eyes. “I can promise. And I do. That was a one-off. You know it was.”

“I do not know. But I hope it was, and I suggest that you and Maria sit down and have a meal.” She swept off to K’mir, and looked at him critically, before signalling to a drudge. “Would you and one of your friends take this greenrider to his weyr? Thank you.”
