((As I said, I'm highly prejudiced on that matter and should be ignored. :P But mostly, I was joking. I won't be harassing people for potential wher-handlers until Yimask gets all shiny and glowy.))

Watching Trag play with his firelizards, D'minic reaches up and rubs Raz affectionately on the forehead with one finger. When Baki vanishes, the brownrider looks at his blue firelizard curiously, but Raz returns the look and makes a derisive blatting noise. Apparently this green, whoever she is, isn't worth the blue's time - either that or Raz fears Vala's wrath, and doesn't want to admit it. Trag's question pulls D'minic's attention back to the boy, however, and he frowns thoughtfully. "That's not an easy question to answer," he says slowly. "Riders have been trying to guess for centuries now, but a boy that everyone bets will Impress a bronze often ends up with a green, and a girl who most of the riders would rather not see Impress at all might get a gold. There are some things that stand out - a weak-willed person, or one who's bad at interpreting or empathizing with other people and animals, is unlikely to Impress, probably because they just can't make contact with a dragon's mind. But stubbornness or kindness don't always mean you will Impress." The brownrider pauses and smiles reassuringly at Trag. "But since you can hear all dragons, you probably will Impress - people like that usually do unless they, personally, don't want to. There's something about someone who can hear them so easily that seems to attract hatchlings. Color, though, I'm not sure. You could be a bronze or brownrider, but like I already said, just because you can doesn't mean you will. Does it really matter what color it is, though?" he asks, eyebrow lifting again. This time it's a rhetorical question, obviously, because he runs right over whatever reply Trag might have made. "The important part is that you'll be a dragonrider." His grin widens, and he ruffles the boy's hair affectionately. It's understandable that the brownrider badly wants that for the boy he cares so much about.
