He opened up his arms for Maria to hide herself in.

Maria accepted Tat's protection, feeling secure in the familiar protection.
"Halzay, Derra, Sally, Ris, this is Maria, rider of blue Myth. She's one of the main reason's K'mir's in such pain."
"Only one?" Maria asked softly.
"The other's are Evelance and Ash. And, of course, Korea."
"K'rea, now."
S'peer left during this exchange.
(neither Maria nor Tat heard.)

"Where'd he go?" Maria asked, voice quavering.
"No, Maria, don't go after him! Maria!" Tat had to raise his voice at the end because she had taken off, following S'peer.
Ojeth, followed Myth. Make sure she doesn't get into trouble, and tell me if she does.
'Of course.'
