Would the choices you make still be the same?

Lumina’s shining eyes showed sympathy as she nodded thanks in reply to the goldrider’s offer to sit down, and pulled out the chair next to her (the one Tr’ln had been at before). Lumanalien instantly followed suit, though it was already apparent that the two were very different. While Lumen’s moves were soft and fluid, showing no hurry in the world, Lumina seemed to be nervous as she sat. Anyone who knew her very well was used to it; she always looked nervous in a public event. Lumen certainly didn’t take it to heart as his laid-back nature shined in his comfortable pose.

Lumina tried to hide the sympathy in her eyes—she knew people didn’t appreciate it fully when others took on pity for them... unless this girl was one who needed sympathy? She finally decided to let her gaze portray a bit of sympathy, so that it was there if the girl needed it. Not overly done, of course; Lumina was becoming very good at this type of emotion-building. Of course, all of this happened in the coarse of seconds; why would she take any longer? Pulling the locks of bushy brown out of her eyes like she always did when concentrating, she frowned at Talla.

Like a flower that dies from angry rain...

“Oh, I’m sorry. Would you like to talk about it? Perhaps I can help...” She bit her lip, and looked at Lumen, who had stepped on her foot under the table. He gave her a knowing look, and she gave a guilty smile. “Oh, sorry. I hope I don’t sound too terribly nosy, but I saw your two friends leave, and...” she ended pathetically.

“I think what my foster mother means,” Lumen said softly, unworried, “is that she didn’t mean to get into your business, but she’d like you to know that she does enjoy listening to people’s problems. She takes it to heart to fix ‘em.” He smiled serenely, and Lumina bit her lip, slightly embarrassed and wondering how he could be so open.

“Yeah,” Lumina answered. The two listened as Talla asked of their residency, and Lumina shook her head. “I’m sorry to say we came a bit late for the last Hatching,” she gestured around the Lower Caverns at the baby dragons. “But, we’d love to be in the next one, so we decided to see if we could live here until then... you know, to get used to the Weyr.” She frowned. “Or, at least, the searchrider told us that would be all right...?” She decided to leave the opinion open, so that Talla could answer with her two-cents. After all, she was a goldrider, and therefore had part of the final say so.

Why do we hurt ourselves?

((Otay. Yeah... it kinda does change the meaning. ^_^;;))
